This Week’s Reflection

MCCDC - The Place To Be

We experience inspiration in worship, in reading the wisdom of holy texts, in prayer by ourselves and with others. We receive inspiration from Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We feel the victory of Jesus over death.

But inspiration, and victory, come in other ways, too.

Inspiration comes in many forms. When we watch our favorite teams play, we join in the cheers. When we sing a favorite hymn, we are reminded again of its power in our spirits. When we see a bright, vibrant bloom we are lifted up.

But inspiration arrives in different forms as well. When we see a plant withering, we are moved to water it. When our pet is limping, we are inspired to get help. When we hear about, or experience, gun violence in our community we are moved to support changes in laws and practice.

We celebrate victory for the teams, we feel the victory of good feeling as we sing, we cherish the flowers as they proclaim the victory of bright beauty. We cheer the dry plant as it gains the victory of being renewed, we shed a tear of joy when our loved one is able to move again with ease, and we honor any victory, no matter how small, as laws and law enforcement change to increase safety for all.

Sunday at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. EDT at Borderfree Worship (both in-person and virtual), we’ll reflect more on inspiration in its many manifestations—I think inspiration may be considered infinite, if we are really open to God and God’s movement in our lives—and examine the wideness of victory.

Ephesians 5:18 says, “…let God fill you with the Holy Spirit.” Let us join together this Sunday and give thanks for, and share, the inspiration and the victory that is available to all.

Borderfree Worship

We’ll begin “borderfree” worship this Sunday, August 8th. You’re invited to continue participating virtually via live stream or join us in person at Fifth & Ridge in Washington, DC.

Learn more at borderfree.mccdc.com and remember to let us know if you’re planning to come in person. Simply visit checkin.mccdc.com (preferred) or contact church administrator Melvin Moore Adams at churchoffice@mccdc.com or (202) 638-7373.

Volunteers Needed: We have many opportunities for you to help create this new “borderfree” worship experience. Reach out to Melvin (info above) for details. We’ll gladly work with your schedule.

What is Borderfree Worship? It connects the in-person experience with the virtual experience, free of the walls of church and home. It also reaches freely through time zones and borders as we grow through global participation. Our goal is for everyone to share the same worship experience.
