This Week’s Reflection
“Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out!” ~Psalm 107:2
One of the delights of our community is sharing our stories of faith. I cherish your stories sent to me through email, telling of how God has been with you through these difficult years of pandemics. You tell how tough times also reveal blessings — not the surface kinds, but those that emerge through testing. Now that we are also worshipping in the Sanctuary, it is good to hear your stories in person. Many of us have not seen each other in person for more than two years and the reunions have been a glimpse of heaven on earth.
A common thread in our stories is how God shows up. Our stories touch back to the stories of our ancestors. The scripture for Sunday is Psalm 107:1-9, 43. This psalm praises God for deliverance from trouble, inward and outward. The four situations described in the psalm are wandering in the desert, being chained in prison, facing the consequences of self-destructive choices, and trying to steer a sinking ship. God shows up with steadfast love in each of these situations.
Our stories, though unique, unite us to each other and to God. We’ve known grief and birth, the end of relationships and the grace of new friendships, the loss of work and new opportunities, the loneliness of lock down and the joy of reconnection. Through it all, we all have stories to tell. I would love to receive more of your stories: RevDwayne@mccdc.com
This Sunday, we will experience stories through the Sacred Voices feature we offer from time to time. Prophet Curtis Savoy and Rev. Jules Christian will share how God has showed up and continues to show up. They will be “in the house” to offer their witness at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. If you’re in the DC area, please join us. As always, our Borderfree Worship will also be online and later on demand.
Psalm 107 culminates with a lasting affirmation: “They will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord.” Likewise, our stories of faith, our history, will encourage future generations.

Generosity Prayer #25

“God, what is it You want to do through us?” —MCCDC—
Dear God, we thank you for your love, healing, forgiveness and giving us the courage and faith to trust you in all things. You are always with us whether we are rejoicing with thanksgiving or burdened with troubles.
Each time we ask, “God, what is it You want to do through us?,” we pray to follow the prompting of your Holy Spirit. Help us to continue blessing the Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC through the generous sharing of our financial gifts, talents, time, treasures, and to continue helping others according to what You have purposed within us to do.
God, we thank You for the Metropolitan Community Churches and churches throughout the world, “an inclusive Christian community” united by Your unconditional love. We thank You in Your many names, Amen!
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to God’s will, God hears us.” I John 5:14 (NIV)
