“And you, my child, will be called the prophet of the Most High, for you’ll go before our God to prepare the way for the Promised One. . . Such is the tender mercy of our God, who from on high will bring the Rising Sun to visit us, to give light to those who live in sadness and the shadow of death and to guide our feet into the way of peace.” ~Luke 1:76, 78-79
“What Child is This?” This song of the season is our Advent and Christmas theme. Last Sunday we responded to the question posed by the song: this child is the child of hope. This Sunday we will light the Second Advent Candle, the Candle of Peace.
Hope and peace resonate with our deepest longings. This child meets our longings. This child comes “to guide our feet into the way of peace.” This conveys that peace is about movement. Peace has an active element to it. There is a place for stillness in experiencing peace, yet ultimately it moves outward. In other words, we are called to “let peace begin with me” and then let it continue in outward ways.
This Sunday we’ll explore peace, including ways to practice peace. As we light our candles, we consider how we embody light in ways that make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Join us at 10:30AM Eastern on-site, on-line or later on-demand.
To prepare I invite you to join me with this prayer:
God of peace, we praise you for sending peace to live among us by sending us Jesus. Jesus is peace with us. We thank you for how this child grew up to leave us with this lasting and eternal promise: “My peace I live with you. My peace I give to you.” Thank you for the life and words of Jesus that save us from brokenness and save us to peace. Amen.

Through Christ’s Hope

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #89

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
“Stay close to anything that makes you glad you are alive.” ~ Hafez
Dear God, thank you for giving us the hope of peace in a chaotic world. Your son Jesus Christ is the great gift given to all so that everyone could be saved and have eternal life. We are so grateful for your unconditional and generous love. Help us to continuously show our generosity in many ways, for you are with us at all times, through grievous and joyful situations. Let us go forth courageously to accomplish your works through commitment, faith and patience. This is a season of hope, and a season of change.
We are grateful for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and all places of spiritual worship. Thank you for blessing us abundantly and for the commitment to share generously of our financial gifts, talents, skills, time, treasures, and goodwill to gather souls for your realm. We are grateful for the seed of prosperity within us to share with others, and helping people in need. Praise you in your many names. Amen!”
“May the God of hope fill you with such peace and joy , in your faith, so that you may be filled with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (First Egalitarian Translation)
