This Week’s Reflection

Don’t let your hearts be troubled… In God’s house there are many dwelling places.
I am going to prepare a place for you… and then I will come back to take you with me.
You know the way that leads to where I am going. (John 14: 1-4)
Our Eastertide theme is Welcome Home.
Home can be fortunate, and indeed sacred, locations (and experiences, people…) to which to bring troubled as well as joyful hearts. Our theme and scripture are well matched to encourage contemplation and action on how MCCDC has been and can continue to be a spiritual home for the care of hearts, in support of wholeness individually, and collectively in community.
In our text, we find Jesus speaking about being community spiritual home. In the John 14 scripture, he is offering words of comfort as he prepares his followers for his departure from his embodied time with them. That time is drawing to a close as his crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension approach. Jesus’ words reflect the love, care, mercy, and justice that he has shared and modeled throughout his ministry—teaching and supporting the collective in building relationship with Divine/and each other body, mind, emotion, and spirit.
In contemporary times, this scripture is often offered as comfort at funerals and memorial services. One blessing of the text is that it supports us, as we are ready, in considering and discussing where we go and how we are held by Divine in transition and beyond—embodied life to death. Another blessing is that it invites contemplation and action on living Resurrection in the body day-to-day, here and now—through our prayers, work, tasks, purpose, rest—individually, and collectively in community at MCCDC… Soothing hearts and finding hope and joy.
Join us this Sunday onsite, online, and later on demand as we explore and take action continuing to enliven our MCCDC spiritual home. ,/H5>

Blessings,
Dr. Carla Sherrell
Clergy Candidate/Volunteer
