Welcome Home

Our theme has been Welcome Home as we celebrate God’s radically inclusive love and welcome here at MCCDC and beyond the walls of our church building.

Home is where friends are, home is where the heart is, home is where we long for belonging and a place where we can be our authentic selves. Our call and our challenge are to show that inclusivity in concrete ways, inside the church walls and outside to the community. Two weeks ago, on Sept 6th I gave a challenge to the congregation to take $5 and give it away.
The second part of the charge was to pray and reflect on the experience. I have been hearing back from people who have learned a lot about themselves in view of God’s radical inclusion as well as how we as a church can expand our reach in community.

This task was not for everyone and if not, I encourage you to pray to see what God would have you be and do to show that radically inclusive love and welcome. One way to ensure we continue to show expansive inclusion is to share and invite. Share the love, and invite people to participate in worship, in studies, in music, in other programming.

This Sunday we have a guest minister, Rev. Elder Mark Byrd. Elder Mark is the Sr. Pastor of New Life MCC in Hampton Roads and an Elder in MCC.

He will be accompanied by his husband and MCC clergy person and former MCC Governing Board member Rev. Alberto Najara.

Rev Mark’s message is entitled Welcome Home For The “Holy” Days (55 Years of Grace & God Ain’t Done!).

Please join your MCCDC family on Sunday at 10:30 on site, online, or later on demand.

Peace,
Rev Cathy Alexander
Associate Pastor

Open Hearts, Open Hands: Join Our New Communion Service Team

A new Worship Service Communion Team is forming, and we invite you to be a part of extending God’s radical welcome to our community—both onsite and online.

Whether you are looking for a deeper way to engage in worship or want to offer a ministry of presence, there is a place for you here.

You can serve in a variety of meaningful ways:

* Co-Celebrant: Stand at the altar and help lead the table.
* Prayer Server: Administer communion and offer prayerful support to those receiving.
* Elements Bearer: Hold the bread/wafer and juice during the service.

No prior experience is necessary! We will provide all the training you need. All that is required is a willing heart, an open spirit, and a little time to serve periodically during worship.

If you desire to show God’s love through prayer and presence, please prayerfully consider this opportunity.
