This Week’s Reflection

“God Is About to Surprise You – Your Life Is About to Change Forever.” Maya Angelou
Surprise and wonderment are the focus of this week’s message. I write this reflection on Ash Wed which is the beginning of the liturgical season of Lent. On Ash Wednesday many traditions impose a sign of the cross on one’s forehead with ashes. It marks the time of reflection and thoughtfulness, and it is symbolic of our mortality. With the placing of ashes, the encouragement “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. From dust you have come and to dust you shall return. And through it all, God is with you.” God is our companion in this 40-day period of Lent which marks a time a preparation for the joyfulness of resurrection Sunday.
This is a time to reflect on triumphs and challenges. Joys and tribulations. I encourage you to take on a spiritual practice during this 40-day period that will encourage you to focus your attention on God. I am determine to “walk” a finger labyrinth during this season. It helps to focus, guide, and create space for me to listen for God’s voice. I believe God is speaking to me and God is speaking to our MCC congregation. God is calling us to become the best we can be, and God is a God of surprise. How do you think God will surprise us?
The scripture for this Sunday is John 2:1-11. The story of Jesus’ first reported miracle of changing water into wine. Certainly, to the great surprise of the wine steward and those who knew the truth about what happened. We will look for the deeper meaning of this story as well as have a time of personal reflection and community unity.
Hope to see you on Sunday at 10:30 am ET onsite, online, or later, on demand.

Peace,
Rev Cathy
Associate Pastor

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #167

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11 (ESV)
Dear God, thank you for helping us realize your Infinite goodness in all things. We are grateful to share generously of our financial gifts, talents, skills, time, and treasures to accomplish the work that you have ordained us to do. In this time of transitioning, we pray to continue to share your Truth of unconditional love for all people everywhere, and remain strengthened and encouraged according to your purpose for our life.
We are grateful for all spiritual gathering places established throughout the world where everyone is invited to come and worship. We are thankful for all religious institutions and charitable organizations that help provide various avenues of assistance to people in life-changing circumstances. We are grateful for all that you have done and are continuing to do. Thank you in your many precious names! Amen. “Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His [the Creator’s] servant.” Psalm 35:27 (NKJV)
