“Generosity becomes real life because it is an authentic act based on faith in the eternality of life. Thus the self-giving life is not a negation of life but an affirmation of the eternality of life; by God life was given, is being given, and will be given.” ~Stephanie Mar Smith
1 Timothy 6: 6-19 invites us to an alternative way of living that counters the life that many are selling and buying. The alternative, beyond power and consumerism, is the life of faith, a life centered in joy and rejoicing. The life of faith is a life of hope, healing, community and glory. This text is a call to holy living and dedication to our God: “As one dedicated to God, strive to be a person of integrity and spiritual practices, filled with faith and love, patience and gentleness” (1 Timothy 6:11). It all points to generosity through our bodies, minds and Spirits.

Where will we focus our energy? Paul writes, “Run the great race of faith. Take firm hold of the everlasting life” (v.12). Paul continues his description of the good life: “Do good, to be rich in good works, generous and ready to share, thus storing up for yourselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future; take hold of the life that really is life” (vv.18-19).

Eternal life is present life. Eternity is now (see Mark1:15). Present time is converted by eternal time. This is because Christ is here and Christ brings eternity to us now. Real life at its essence is generosity in loving others.

Psalm 91, another reading for Sunday, invites us to raise our voices in praise, finding refuge and strength in God’s eternal love, and growing in our trust. During times of trouble, prayer creates a centering in peace and presence.

In preparation for Sunday, I invite you to reflect on these lines from the enduring hymn by Audrey Assad that describes life that is truly life, “How Can I Keep from Singing?”

My life goes on in endless song

Above earth’s lamentations,

I hear the real, though far-off hymn

That hails a new creation.

Through all the tumult and the strife

I hear its music ringing,

It sounds an echo in my soul.

How can I keep from singing?

By Faith,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnso

18 Hours of Prayer & Fasting for MCCDC

On Saturday, October 4, 2025! 6:00 AM-12:00 AM MCCDC will be praying and fasting for 18 Hours.

1. Commit to fasting something on 10/4/25

2. Take a 30-minute timeslot to pray for the church

3. Share what God put on your heart during your prayer.

On Your 30 minutes of prayer:

1 Corinthians 1:10: “I appeal to you, dear siblings, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.”

Proverbs 3:5-10: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to the Lord, and the Lord will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Give thanks to God for our church and how MCCDC has blessed you.
Pray for our Pastors and Board
Pray for our finances
Pray for specific people, things and issues that God brings to mind

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #159

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Dear God, we are grateful for your peace within that helps us to trust You in all things, and especially during times of grief, suffering, and over situations of which we have no control. Thank you for the faith and courage that help us perform right actions for circumstances we can change, and forgive what we cannot change. You are with us always, in good times and during the chaotic periods of our lives. We are thankful for your unconditional love, mercy, patience, and wisdom. We shall persevere on to victory in your name!

We are grateful to share our talents, skills, time and treasures for worship and spiritual practices according to your Word for our daily lives. We embrace your generosity and prosperity with gratitude. We willingly share wisely of your abundance to help spread the gospel to everyone, assist ones in need, and to magnify your glorious nature in all that we do. We are your beloved community—a people of all races, genders, and ethnicities throughout the world. We praise you, God, in your many precious names! Amen.

“So you see, people are justified by their works and not by faith alone.” — James 2:24 (The First Egalitarian Translation)
