Peter knelt and prayed and said, “Tabitha, get up!” ~Acts 9:40

God provides us with what we need to get up. Down times are a part of life, a part of being human. And they are not intended to become a lifestyle. When we go through the down night of the soul, the invitation is to know that mourning will become morning, in God’s time and through our openness. Our part in this is relatively small. God does the heavy lifting. God revives joy.

Tabitha got up! This is a highpoint in our inspiring scripture for Sunday from Acts 9: 36-43. She was a beloved disciple with a life that “overflowed with good works and compassionate acts on behalf of those in need” (v.36). She was a provider. She was also an artist and clothing designer who loved creating beautiful garments for others, especially widows who longed for comfort beyond words. Those widows had more grief when Tabitha became sick and died. The God of mourning to morning showed up through Peter, who filled with the Holy Spirit turned to her body and said “Tabitha, get up.” She did. As news spread of this miracle of life, “many put their faith in the Lord” (v. 42).

Through people and the Holy Spirit, God provides for our every need in body, mind and spirit. When we need to be lifted, God provides the hand. There is much more to explore in Tabitha’s story. I look forward to exploring with you on Sunday at 10:30AM Eastern on-site, on-line and on-demand.

In the meantime, I invite you to join me in this prayer:

“Loving and lifting God,

Through your healing power you lifted your beloved daughter Tabitha to new life. You revived her breath. You know the places in our lives where we need your divine touch. Revive us again! Help our lives to joyfully overflow with good works and compassionate acts on behalf of those in need. Amen.”

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Dwayne

Pathways to Generosity, A Prayer of Love, Prayer #140

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.” ~ Robert A. Heinlein

Dear God, thank you for creating the most precious and inclusive love environment for people of all genders, sex, race, color, and ethnicities. We are grateful for the generous gift of grace through your Son, Jesus Christ, who died that we might have eternal life. We only have to accept this gift and commit ourselves to living and loving each other as Christ taught many years ago. We pray to reflect a respectful and willing heart where love abides, for everyone is invited to your beloved community “without borders.” Help us fulfill the purpose you planned for our lives.

We pray to not become prideful or boastful about who we are but know that true PRIDE lies in being a part of your creation that was planned from the beginning. We are all interwoven pieces of colorful and vivid patterns of fabric connected under the auspices of love and community. For this we are grateful. We are thankful for the unlimited space within our hearts that allows us to worship you from our “secret closet” (one-to-one), and the many spiritual places of worship throughout the world. Thank you for the joy of sharing our many gifts—finances, talents, time and treasures in service of your spiritual realm and helping others in need. We give with a cheerful heart. Praise you in your many precious names. Amen

“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” I Chronicles 29:14 (NIV)
