One bread, one body, one Lord of all. One cup of blessing which we bless. And we, though many, throughout the Earth. We are one body in this one Lord
~John Foley and New Dawn?

Over the last few weeks we have been focusing on the human threads created and knit together by God for community, examining the interconnected relationships within our MCCDC family shaped by faith and shared purpose These are the cords of faith bind us together as community, as we move together towards the goal of sharing God’s radically inclusive love to the world. It takes all of us. Each of us doing what we can in our spiritual community to serve God and serve humanity.

In this first sermon on “Community and the Will of God,” theologian Howard Thurman describes community as “a structure and a goal that is inherent in life. Everything is striving to fulfill itself in community. This movement towards harmony is what binds and interconnects the lives and actions of living beings.” Let us fulfill our spiritual calling from God to work together for justice in community.

This Sunday we will have a time of music and ritual. A reminder that we are bound together in Christ’s love and therefore are not easily broken. Our reading in Romans 12:4-6 says, “We have many parts in one body, but the parts don’t all have the same function. In the same way, though there are many of us, we are one body in Christ, and individually we belong to each other. We have different gifts that are consistent with God’s grace that has been given to us.

What is your gift and how can you use it in service to God in community. What is God calling you to do and be? Come onsite or online to participate in service and seek to experience God’s voice in sung and spoken word and ritual

I encourage you to reflect on your unique talents and consider how these can be used in service to both your faith journey, and your community. You are invited to attend onsite or online, engaging in worship, music, and ritual while seeking personal guidance and insight.

Peace,
Rev Cathy Alexander

Never Alone: Wellness in Spiritual Community

We live in times that are impacting mental health. At MCCDC we offer support. We are aware of stigma and seek to create a space for reflection and for open conversations to help us learn from each other in a spiritual context.

As you are willing and able, please reflect on the text and topic below.

Romans 12:4-9 Common English Bible
4 We have many parts in one body, but the parts don’t all have the same function. 5 In the same way, though there are many of us, we are one body in Christ, and individually we belong to each other. 6 We have different gifts that are consistent with God’s grace that has been given to us. If your gift is prophecy, you should prophesy in proportion to your faith. 7 If your gift is service, devote yourself to serving. If your gift is teaching, devote yourself to teaching. 8 If your gift is encouragement, devote yourself to encouraging. The one giving should do it with no strings attached. The leader should lead with passion. The one showing mercy should be cheerful. 9 Love should be shown without pretending. Hate evil, and hold on to what is good. 10 Love each other like the members of your family. Be the best at showing honor to each other.

Join Dr. Carla as we explore wellness in ourselves and communities in these times, including how challenges, opportunities, and joy arise in support of growth in love.

Feel free to bring related poems, devotions, other writings, art, songs to share.

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #156

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” ~ Gautama Buddha
Dear God, thank you for walking by our side and protecting us. We call and wait upon your gracious power to enable us to stand in your strength, trusting you to guide us in all our actions of courage, and the commitment to continue great works for your spiritual realm. Thank for the wisdom that help us to interact with all people whether they be friends or foes. We are grateful for the heavenly angels you have watching over us to keep us safe from harm and the thoughtless acts that threaten our rights and freedom. Help us release fear of the unknown and walk boldly in your light to facilitate change(s) that can help benefit all people throughout the world.

We beg of your generous mercy to reign upon the whole earth that we accept with gratitude the peace you give us, the peace that enables us to be kind and respect one another, to live in the freedom of who we are, and to worship You with gratitude for all that you have done, are doing, and planning to do for everyone. We are grateful for your generosity in helping our hearts rejoice for the expansive prosperity expressed through commitment and actions to further your purpose of gathering souls for the spiritual realm, as well as assisting people who need help. Thank you, God, for blessing your “beloved community” of all races and genders to continue performing great works to magnify your glory so that others might see your Light reflected within us. Thank you in your many precious names! Amen.
