MCCDC - The Place To Be

”Your self-worth grows when you fight for something you love.” ~Maxime Lagace

For Jesus a seed is not just a seed. For Jesus a seed is a force for life. A seed is hope. A seed is potential and transformation. As seed is a miracle waiting to happen. In Sunday’s Scripture from Mark 4:26-34 Jesus says, “What’s a good image for God’s realm? What parable can I use to explain it? Consider a mustard seed. ..when it’s planted, it grows. ..it produces such large branches that the birds in the sky are able to nest in its shade.”

This Sunday we continue to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride as we embrace our “True Colors.” We have much to celebrate, including our part in the movements for equality. This past Monday MCCDC showed up beautifully at the Interfaith Pride Service. Rev. Cathy Alexander, one of the speakers, told part of our story. She shared that on October 6, 1968 Rev. Elder Troy Perry led the historic first Metropolitan Community Church worship service in a little pink house in Huntington Park, California. There were twelve in attendance that first Sunday. He thought he was starting one church. He didn’t know he was founding a movement that would quickly spread. The seed he planted on October 6, 1968 grew and continues to grow.

AND. . .there are many more seeds to plant. While we celebrate the places LGBTQ+ Pride is flourishing, we are deeply aware that our work is unfinished. There are so many who feel they are not worthy of God’s love. They are bound by fear and toxicity. This week our TikTok Video has received over 4,000 views. Many of the responses express gratitude for our message. Other comments, some hateful, are a cry for help. We share an important message that all of God’s people are worthy of love, belonging, and spiritual growth.

Our justice work is also unfinished, with the need to plant and nourish many more seeds. Radical equality demands that LGBTQ+ people in the United States expand the vision of justice to include our global siblings that face poverty and violence. Also, gender nonconformists remain hate crime targets here and globally. The rainbow of love must extend to places like Uganda where the very lives of our QT+ siblings are at grave risk.

As we celebrate another year of Pride, we must not rest. We must remain diligent in our world changing work. Pride celebrations, locally and globally, are part of the continuing effort to plant new seeds of hope. These celebrations inspire hope for those who have not come out.

Our worship this Sunday at 10:30AM onsite, online and later on demand will include the joyous ministry of Eclectic Praise. We will offer spiritual inspiration for MCCDC to be a church that is known for its persistent work in planting seeds of worth that will grow into fullness.

Grace and peace,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson
