AS Rev. Dwayne said on September 1st, “Relationships matter.” It is because of relationships that Cassandra and I are excited to be ministering with and to you this weekend.

Dwayne and I go back almost 25 years. I was his Administrative Assistant for ten years when he was pastor at Resurrection MCC in Houston. Working that closely with someone for that length of time allows for close and permanent bonds to form. Our relationship moved beyond employer and employee to colleagues and then forever family. It allows for, as he said in his sermon on the 8th , both joy and pain. We have gone through deaths and divorces as well as marriages and births. We have seen the good the bad and the ugly of each other and our families and because of it we have grown deeper in love over the years.

We are also connected to MCCDC through another relationship. Who would have thought that a chance meeting on an airplane in route to General Conference in Acapulco nine years ago would blossom into a sisterhood? That is how Rev. Cathy, Cassandra and I met each other. Only God knew in that meeting, that we would become family. We have traveled together, laughed together, worked together and cried together. In essence, we have moved into each other’s hearts. As Dwayne said on the 15th, we are willing to pay the cost of what it takes to be in relationship; willingly giving up our possessiveness and our possessions in order to be in real and authentic relationship with each other. There is nothing that we wouldn’t do for each other.

This weekend, Cassandra and I will have the opportunity to begin relationships with all of you. On Saturday morning Cassandra, a dynamic gospel artist, who is a classically trained soprano and has been on Broadway and toured Europe, will offer a music workshop that will lift your spirits and revive you again through song. Then we will offer a workshop on what it takes to be in relationship. We will offer some practices that will help you develop and reset healthy, authentic relationships. On Sunday, we will worship with you in word and song as we explore Matthew 5:21-26 and seek an understanding of what we must do in order to live as a beloved community of God.

We are looking forward to seeing old family and friends and making new ones

Revival bound,Rev. Vickey and Cassandra

September 21st, 12-4 PM – Relationship Workshop

We are hard wired for community and relationships. Yet most of us have never had the opportunity to learn how to have healthy relationships or live in beloved community. This workshop is filled with meaningful exercises, opportunities to seek hard truths, and conversations starters designed to nourish and guide us to Reset our Relationships.

To reset a relationship is to reconcile the relationship. Reconciliation is defined as the restoration of friendly relations. Reconciliation involves a change in the relationship. If we need to reset a relationship, we can assume there has been a breakdown in the relationship. The call of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to change our relationships from a state of enmity and fragmentation and isolation to one of harmony and wholeness and community.

Per Jesus, resetting or reconciling our relationships are the greatest command.Come and learn how you can deepen and Reset Relationships by allowing what emerges through this process to transform our lives.

NATIONAL TRANS VISIBILITY EVENTS, WASHINGTON, DC

The National Trans Visibility March is of critical importance at this time. With the Equality Act of 2019 being threatened by the Senate and the continuation of the Trans military ban implementation, there is a need to mobilize America to recognize and fight for the rights of TGNC/NB people. Although the current administration has intentionally rolled back efforts to prevent inclusion of transgender communities in the upcoming 2020 Census, individuals from the TGNC/NB communities have mobilized and issued a call to action to dismantle the social structures that have oppressed and disenfranchised the TGNC/NB community for far too long.

March with us at the National Trans Visibility March to show the world that our lives matter, that our health matters, that our present and future matters, that our voices matter, that our minds matter, that our feelings matter. March with us to demand justice for our sisters and brothers whose lives were taken through senseless murders, violence and systemic oppression. March with us to demand financial equity and employment opportunities. March with us to fight for health equity. March with us to show the world that no decisions are made about us, without us.
