This Week’s Reflection
“O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.”
~Psalm 139: 1-2, New Revised Standard Version
Psalm 139 affirms that God knows us better than we know ourselves. I find hope in that. Others may find it intimidating. What I find intimidating is online links that sell my information. Who knows what they know about me? How will they use that information? Some platforms think they know me well enough to direct advertising in my direction. Others want to push topics I may be interested in. Knowing this, sometimes I don’t click on certain You Tube videos because I know the next time I log on I’ll be overwhelmed with videos on a topic I’m only mildly interested in.
In this day of scammers and spammers I’ve learned to be careful with my information. Who can be trusted? I’m grateful that I can trust God with my information. God searches me and knows me and never uses that information to manipulate me. Rather, the purpose of God’s search is to help me in my search. God leads me to awe and to proclaim with the psalmist in Psalm 139:6: “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.” Yes, I’ll never attain all that is there, not in in this lifetime, yet there is awesome joy in the search.
From awe, God leads us to guidance. God lovingly shows us the way. God helps us to know ourselves and to live our best lives. We can trust God to “lead us in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:24). The spiritual invitation is beyond the rabbit trails of social media platforms to the pathways that truly lead to abundant living.
In preparation for our worship at 9a.m. and 11a.m. (Eastern) and on demand, I invite you to join me in this prayer:
“O God, you know us inside and out, through and through. Everything we do, every move we take, every plan we make, you know. You know our past; you know our future. Your guiding presence is with us every moment. Open us to your guiding presence. Amen.”
Grace and peace,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
Dear God, thank you for being with us in whatever is taking place in our lives at any time, whether it is joyful moment or being overwhelmed with grief. You are our salvation, our rock who protects and guides us through the Holy Spirit to do your will. We pray to walk by faith and trust you regardless of circumstances and situations even when we become unsure and troubled. God, you know our wishes, dreams, and struggles that weave within the fabric of our lives. We must be willing to walk by faith, and work with patience for what is desired.
We are grateful for our spiritual leaders whose vision for a more prosperous church to further reach more souls and bring them into your realm helps us grow in faith as we share generously of our financial gifts, time, talents, skills, and treasures. Through the prompting of the Holy Spirit, we are encouraged to remain steadfast in our endeavors to accomplish the vision and mission that is before us. Thank you for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and all spiritual places of worship, “a church without borders” where everyone is welcomed into your spiritual realm, your Beloved Community.
“. . .The truth is, if you have even as much faith as the tiny mustard seed, you can be able to say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20-21 (The 1st Egalitarian Translation)
