Happy New Year MCCDC!
I had to chuckle at the title of our Epiphany week celebration. Indeed the road or the people are not (mostly) straight. And neither is the road that we will walk in 2025.
Like the Magi, there will be mystery and uncertainty and exhaustion and trouble as we make our way through the ups and downs of the coming year. AND there will likewise be adventure and learning and friendship and joy and epiphanies as we journey this road together.
The story of the Magi from long ago, who were most likely Zoroastrians, from Persia (Iran), who were scientists, astrologers, mystics and priests, inspire us to our own journey of faith.
Josemaria Escriva, a Spanish priest in the Catholic Church who lived his life by faith and inspired others to do the same, said this:
“We need a strong life of faith to appreciate the wonder God’s providence has entrusted to us—a faith like that of the Magi, a conviction that neither the desert, nor the storms, nor the quiet of the oases will keep us from reaching our destination in the eternal Bethlehem: our definitive life with God.”
We will look anew at the familiar scriptures in Matthew 2: 1-12, where we learn of the Magi, or wise ones and at Isaiah 43: 18-21 where God promises to be with us and make a way for us.
Just as the Magi by faith went through the dessert together, following the star, to reach the promised Messiah, we too will walk by faith together, guided by the light of the Holy Spirit to reach all that God has for us and all that God wants to do through us in 2025!
I look forward to digging deeper and embarking on our journey together this first Sunday of the new year! Join us at 9:00 for our Spiritual Engagement Hour, 10:00 for friendship and hospitality and 10:30 for our Worship Service in house and on livestream!

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #126
by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
“Faith is a knowledge within the heart, beyond the reach of proof.” ~ Kahlil Gibran
Dear God, this is a time of remembrance when hundreds of years ago, hope and love seemed to be lacking all over a dark and sad world, somewhat like we are experiencing today through expressions of hate and division that attempt to overrun the goodness and peace that You gave us, the generous gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. How blessed that we are revived with hope and peace through God’s loving mercies and forgiveness. Peace not as the world gives, but one that grows our faith, knowing that matter what happens God is still with us. The Creator loves us so much that IT gave human beings the authority to rule over the whole earth. Our desire is that those who rule will choose to exercise wisdom to do the right thing and be good stewards of all treasures and resources that You entrusted to everyone.
God, thank you for the spiritual leaders of Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and for spiritual worship spaces everywhere. We are grateful for all who volunteer precious time to share generously of their skills, talents, financial gifts, and other treasures to further your purpose in the spiritual realm. Thank you for all people committed to doing great works to magnify your name throughout the earth! We are thankful for hope, love, joy, peace, faith, and strength that You give to help us be strong and encouraged in the midst of adversity and egregious situations. And God, thank you for the families and friends who love and support us in times of happiness and sadness. People from all corners of the earth are blessed with gifts of your generosity and prosperity! In your many precious names, we praise You! Amen.
“Nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37 (The First Egalitarian Translation)
