This Week’s Reflection

MCCDC - The Place To Be

Sing to the Beloved a new song.

Sing praises to the Blessed One among the people! Be glad in the Creator, rejoice in Love Divine! Praise the Divine Lover with dancing, with drum and harp. For the Beloved dwells within, journeying with us through all our lives, Leading us in truth and love. Psalm 149 ~ Nan C. Merrill, Psalms for Praying: An Invitation to Wholeness, alt.

What a blessing it has been to explore our worship series of Living Grace for the last five weeks. And, as we come to the conclusion of this series, certainly not to the end of Grace, we have the opportunity to notice what came up for each of us as we took this journey of contemplating Grace… What it means for each of us individually and in relationship in our many configurations, including for us as a spiritual community. What Grace tells us about our relationship with God, as we each understand the Creator, Beloved, Blessed One, Divine Lover in our lives, and how we are to be with, care for, and love one another.

In our series we have had messages on Saving Grace, Companioning Grace, Fierce Grace, Beholding Grace, and Sustaining Grace. If you have not had the opportunity to catch these sermons, I encourage you to find them on demand, because they are such an invitation to let arise your personal wonderings, excitement, uplift, grumbling, breath, sadness, ah-ha’s, and gratitude about Grace. You might, then, have conversation with your MCCDC siblings or others who can engage in conversation about Grace with those from LGBTQIA+ communities and through other contexts of justice without reenacting violence that can be so present.

Through contemplating this series, I have moved closer, and become more open, to Grace as mystical and also as the very presence of the Creator in the day-in and day-out interactions we engage with ourselves and others. There is peace and amazement in that.

Our questions and musings, increased clarity, our confusion that go to God are new songs sung, new movements, new instruments played to the Beloved Creator. New songs and movements of relationship uniquely arising from each of us, because the Creator made us with the capacity to question and to be excited, to grumble and struggle, to find joy and solace and community in Grace. Grace that may drop into the background, but that can be present, even when we don’t recognize it.

Please join us Sunday, in-person or by live stream at 9a.m. and 11a.m. and later on demand, as we continue to explore Songs of Grace.

Blessings,

Dr. Carla Sherrell

“. . . There is nothing free except the Grace of God, you cannot earn that or deserve it.” Charles Portis.

Dear God, thank you for your unending grace and mercies each day. There is no way we can earn your grace for you granted us this gift through the death of your Son, Jesus, for the forgiveness of our sins. Thank you for the wisdom to know that when we fail we can always approach the throne of Grace and find mercy. Help us to discern the truth of your grace and not be tempted to follow false doctrines that are prevalent today.

We are grateful for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and all places of spiritual worship, and for the spiritual leaders that seek your will and guidance to share the gospel with everyone. All are invited to come and partake of your grace. Thank you for the opportunities to rejoice in faith regardless of the circumstances that confront us from time to time. Through your grace we are encouraged to share generously of our gifts and talents to perform great works in your name.

We praise you for grace and prosperity that abound, immersing us in Your goodness. Thank you for growing us stronger in grace so that we can reflect to others the Christ who lives within us for the honor of Your Name. We worship, praise, and glorify You. Thank you, in your many precious names. Amen.

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.” Peter 1:2 (KJV)

“O momentary grace of mortal men, which we more hunt for than the grace of God!” William Shakespeare

Dear God, we reverence your Infinite grace, the most precious gift you gave us through the death of your precious Son, Jesus Christ, who died for the forgiveness of our sins. Every breath we breathe is by your grace and each moment of our life exists because of You. No human, however great or famous can match this gift. God, we are grateful that your grace helps us deal with grief when we are overwhelmed, and during seasons of happiness too. Help us to remember that we are saved by grace when we fail, and to remember it much more when we succeed in our endeavors. You provide for our every need.

Thank you for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and all spiritual worship spaces. Because of your grace, we are able to perform great works in your name, spreading the gospel all over the world through the use of modern technology. We are grateful for the opportunities to magnify your love and grace within us and to help people in need. We pray to continue growing in faith, and prosperity; and to share generously of all treasured gifts you grant us. In your many precious names, we are made rich in every way! Amen.

“There are no limits to the grace of God, who will make sure you will always have enough of everything and even a surplus for good works, as scripture says: God scattered abroad, and gave to poor people; God’s justice endures forever “ . . . “You will be made rich in every way for your generosity, for which we give thanks to God.” 2 Corinthians 9:8-9, 11
(The 1st Egalitarian Translation)
