MCCDC - The Place To Be

This Week’s Reflection

Receive is an ‘action word

What does Jesus mean when He tells his disciples to “receive the Holy Spirit?” Why was this act so important? Were there consequences for not receiving the Holy Spirit? Did the disciples have a choice?

Jesus showed up in their midst unannounced. He caught them hiding out from the religious leadership who wanted to kill them because they believed in Jesus.
• Jesus spoke God’s peace over them.
• Jesus showed them his scars and wounds.
• Jesus told them that he was sending them out into the world.
• Jesus didn’t ask permission; he just breathed on them and told them to receive the Holy Spirit. Why did he do that?
• Why does the Holy Spirit need to be received?

Jesus came back unexpectedly a second time to have an encounter with Thomas. Why was this encounter so important? How important was the role that Thomas would play?

Jesus came into their midst unannounced and unashamed. Jesus was looking for the disciples that he had trained. They had a very important mission, should they accept it. Jesus was about to rock their world, and all they had to do was receive the Holy Spirit.

Come and see what God is about to do through those disciples, and through those who are called today. Join us this Sunday at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. ET in the Sanctuary and online or later on Demand.

“Your most precious, valued possessions and your greatest powers are invisible and intangible. No one can take them. You, and you alone, can give them. You will receive abundance for your giving.” ~W. Clement Stone

Dear God, thank you for the most precious gift of all, the gift of eternal life through the death of your son, Jesus, who died for our sins. This week, we come to celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection, and his rightful return to you. The news media regurgitate worldly chaos across different formats, but we can remain steadfast in your love and protection. Thank you for your peace that dwells within us, not as the world would give us, but according to your glory.

We are grateful for our gathering place, Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and the many spiritual places of worship where all people are free to worship you, regardless of the circumstances or conditions. Thank you for all spiritual leaders that consistently guide us according to your purpose. Thank you for blessing us with gratitude and the willingness to share generosity through talents, time, treasures, and financial gifts which are used to glorify your works. Thank you, God, for the intangible gifts you have given us. We pray to use them wisely according to the plans you have for us.

God, we ask, where are we headed? We pray to continue spreading the gospel to people all over the world, to keep bringing more souls into your beloved community, and helping people in need. Through You, we want to be like a beacon of light set high on a hill so that others may witness your glory and come rejoicing into your spiritual beloved community. Thank you, in your many precious names. Amen.

“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.” ~1st Timothy 4:4-5
