This Week’s Reflection
You are the Beloved; be gracious to me, for with You would I walk, would I move all day. My soul is uplifted, as I abandon myself into your hands.
For You are kind and forgiving, abounding in steadfast Love to all who call upon You. Be present to me and receive my prayer; imbue me with strength, and help me to release each fear. For You, O Beloved, are my Redeemer and my Comforter. Psalm 86
~ Nan C. Merrill, Psalms for Praying: An Invitation to Wholeness, alt.
Pride this year has been filled with contrasts. Some have said that it has had more the quality of a rollercoaster than is often true, as the excitement and comfort of being together and celebrating living into our identities/locations has also included ongoing aggressive, widely disseminated attacks on our communities, with our transgender and gender nonconforming siblings being especially targeted and assaulted. The messages of erasure and unworthiness are pronounced, and so this week’s prayer of David can be supportive and soothing. It can offer an invitation to prayer for us here and now—a reminder to slow down for a moment, to notice our breath and let it deepen as we are willing and able, to remember God as ever-present wonder-working companion through whom we may access courage as we are encircled in God’s steadfast unmovable love.
Courage is also a theme in our gospel reading from Matthew chapter 10 as we encounter Jesus teaching of the challenges and trials that would be faced by His disciples as a result of being his followers. These include the conflicts, lost relationships, and physical dangers that could come to them from within their own families and through broader societal structures. Jesus speaks to his presence and ministry shaking things up and through that process of changes that are created. And, he shares with his followers instructions on how they might carry out change and do so while addressing their fears. This Pridetide, what lessons might we draw from Jesus, individually and as a LGBTQIA+ and ally community, on courageously spreading the Good News of God’s inclusive love in ways that support such transformation?
Please join us Sunday, in-person or by live stream at 9a.m. and 11a.m. and later on demand, as we explore courageously shaking things up.
Blessings,
Dr. Carla Sherrell

“There is no way to prosperity. Prosperity is the way.” ~~ Wayne Dyer
Dear God, thank you for being a prosperous and generous Creator. We ask that you help us be good stewards of the riches of life you have given us; health, wisdom, love, forgiveness, faith, knowledge, the ability to increase generosity, and so much more. Thank you for the opportunities that help us grow in faith and trust you for all things. You are our provider and protector who will never leave nor forsake us. You are with us when everything is going well, and you are with us when troubling times are hard to bear.
Thank you, God, for the privilege to share generously of our financial gifts with Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, other places of spiritual worship, and helping those in need. We are grateful for the many generous ways that people share their talents, treasures, and time to continue spreading your gospel of unconditional love. We thank you for our spiritual home “without borders” where everyone is welcome. In your many precious names! Amen
“Remember God, Yhwh, who enabled you to produce this wealth, to confirm the covenant that God swore to your ancestors, which is fulfilled today.” Deuteronomy 8:18 (1st Egalitarian Translation)
