O most Compassionate Life-giver, may we honor and praise you; May we work with you to establish your new order of justice peace and love; Give us what we need for growth, And help us, through forgiving others, to accept forgiveness.Strengthen us in the time of testing, that we may resist all evil,For all tenderness, strength and love are yours, now and forever. Amen.~New Zealand Aborigine Lord’s Prayer

Taking a different perspective can often help us to approach questions and challenges from a fresh angle. As we continue to social distance and perhaps view the world through the windows of our homes, hopefully we can see and hear nature around us. Spring is slowing making its way to our doorsteps and perhaps we can take a moment to pause and take in the sights, sounds and smells that Spring brings.

Our gospel passage this week is John 10: 1-10. Here, like many other places in scripture, Jesus is presented as a shepherd who has such care, concern and compassion for his sheep. As the shepherd, Jesus also provides a sense of safety from the “thieves” of life that will attempt to harm the sheep or take them away. We each have the opportunity for Jesus to provide that sense of safety and care for us as well. Let us commit to God, ourselves, and each other, to seek our Shepherd and receive the care and relationship the Shepherd has to offer us.

The second scripture passage for Sunday is Acts 2: 42-47. It tells of living in community through shared meals, having a common cause of love, and coming together with a sense of shared purpose and love. Although the means are different because of technology, the story of common cause and being in community is ours as well. We can use our creativity and innovation to share together in the overflow of this generous and beloved community called MCCDC.

This Sunday as you prepare to participate in worship please read the scripture passages and bring with you a rock or stone (sometimes called a “worry stone”). We will be using them during service. Thank you for your faithfulness and presence in communal worship

Peace,
Rev. Cathy Alexander
