This Week’s Reflection

MCCDC - The Place To Be

“Teach me thy grace in all the little things of life. Teach me thy grace in the daily work by which I earn my keep and the keep of those dependent upon me. There are duties demanded of me that irk and irritate, dulling the cutting edge of joy in labor. There is the fatigue that burrows deep into the citadel of my sense of well-being, rendering me brittle, sharp in speech, and short in patience. Teach me thy grace.” ~Rev. Dr. Howard Thurman from Meditations of the Heart

Grace! Dr. Howard Thurman reminds us that grace is at the heart of daily life and also at the heart of God. As summer begins to move towards fall, we begin a new series: “Living Grace.” The purpose of this series is to help us each enter deep into the ways of God’s grace, in ways that are tailored for our unique personalities. Grace is alive in each of us!

We are invited to live with grace each day in our interactions with others. In a world marked by divisions and splits, grace seems rarely applied. This is true even in the church, as exemplified by the recent split in the United Methodist Church, primarily due to a disagreement over the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ members. Grace is the source of wholeness and unity.

Throughout this series we’ll ponder questions such as:

How do we pray for grace?

What is prevenient grace?

How do we become a beloved community of living grace?

What does it mean to say grace?

Our prayer is that this series will open pathways and insights into living grace, grace that is alive and opens us to abundant life. Join us for a time of grace through worship each Sunday at 9a.m. and 11a.m Eastern in the Sanctuary, online, or later on demand.

In Eugene Peterson’s take on Matthew 11: 28 Jesus invites, “Come to me! Move with me and work with me. Watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.” Let’s receive this invitation to grace!

Grace and peace,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

There is so much to be grateful for, just open your eyes.”— Anonymous

Dear God, we are grateful for the opportunities to manifest your Love within our hearts as a living testimony to people that we come in contact with each day. The outpouring of your prosperity is a blessing to share with others in need and bring hope to people who are hungering for your grace and mercy.

Thank you, God, for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, our spiritual leaders and all spiritual places of worship working together according to your purpose that you have planned from the beginning.

We pray to trust you in all things as we continue on the faith-raising journey sharing generously of our financial gifts, talents, time, skills, and treasures to help spread the gospel throughout the world. In your many names, we praise You. Amen!

“O Lord, how many are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your possessions.” Psalm 104:24
