This Week’s Reflection

MCCDC - The Place To Be

God’s time is always near. God gave me my strength and set the North star in the heavens. God meant I should be free. ~Harriett Tubman

Today’s quote from Underground Railroad conductor, Harriet Tubman, lets us know that the North Star in the sky was an ongoing sign of God’s direction and faithfulness to her. She was born near Washington DC in Dorchester County Maryland, and is an example of persistence, perseverance, and close relationship with the God of her understanding. The impact of her action is still being felt and written about today. We can each learn lessons from her about working to the best of our abilities for justice and equity in our current environments. We can pray and act in our situations.

As we each face daily pressures of our lives, we are well positioned to examine and take in those lessons to persist in the ministry and spirituality that God has called us to. What areas of life, body, spirituality, civics is God calling you to examine, strengthen and perhaps expand? Where is God calling you to persist and persevere in prayer? How do you respond to that invitation from God?

We will have two sacred text readings for this Sunday’s service. One will be more words from Underground Railroad conductor Harriet Tubman who made a significant impact on her world because of her faith, courage and perseverance. Our reading from the bible is from Luke 18: 1-8. This is the story of the widow who uses her resilience and persistence to approach a Judge to receive justice in a matter of importance to her. The stated point of the story is to persist in prayer

Peace,
Rev. Cathy Alexander

Pathways 2 Generosity, Prayer #34

“With praise and thanksgiving, we accept the riches of God to guide, govern, protect and prosper our spiritual place of worship to serve in harmony according to God’s purpose.” – C. Carter, MCCDC

Dear God, we come to you with praises and thanksgiving in our hearts for Your guidance and protection. Through faith and commitment, we desire to grow the capacity to give and receive generously to continue expanding your works across the globe. We are thankful for people giving generously of their talents, financial gifts, time, and treasures in sharing your goodness both spiritually and physically.

We pray that Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC and all places of spiritual worship remain prosperous in the riches of God’s abundance, and the harvesting of souls. In your many names, Creator, we praise you. Amen.

Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of God’s stewards.” Psalms 35:27 (NKJV)
