MCCDC - The Place To Be

This Week’s Reflection

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. The Lord helps those whose spirits are crushed.” ~Psalm 34: 18

Many of us find it difficult to ask for help. That was one of the key points last Sunday when we launched Mental Health Awareness Month. The reasons for this are many. Sometimes we don’t want to bring others down. So we force a smile and answer “ok” when someone asks how we are doing.

We need each other. We need God. And we are here to help each other. Being helpers and helping the helpers is a shared purpose in our life together. This Sunday we’ll look at how grief and loss impacts our mental health. And we’ll consider our sources of help.

The message Sunday will include testimonies of loss by guests Rev. George Lino and Rabbanit Chava. A clinician, Simone Blanchard, will offer additional perspective. My comments will focus on spiritual touchpoints that can support us on the journey of grief. Join us and bring friends for our Borderfree Worship at 9a.m and 11a.m ET in the Sanctuary, online, or on demand.

In preparation for Sunday, I invite you to receive a breath. Invite the presence of Jesus to join you at this moment. Invite the voice of Jesus to speak to your heart: “My beloved, I am with you in your grief. I too weep. I see you. I see how hard you work trying to figure everything out. It is too much for you to handle alone. I help you by sending you helpers. Receive them as a gift. My beloved, your every tear is a prayer. I pray with you. Are you ready to pray with me?

Grace and peace,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

“The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.” ~ Dalai Lama

Dear God, we ask for so many things in life and sometimes we seem to take your gifts for granted. Thank you for the many opportunities to willingly share your abundant blessings—financially, and the sharing of time, talents, skills, and treasures with our churches, supporting our families, with charity organizations, and helping people where needed. We are grateful for the vision you give us to increase prosperity to help continue spreading the gospel to people everywhere. Thank you for the gift of good stewardship and the obeying of the Holy Spirit.

We are thankful for the spiritual places of worship throughout the world where people gather to have community with you and the congregation. Thank you for walking beside us, and picking us up when we stumble; and we when fall. We are grateful to be within your presence that surrounds us without end, the sun, the moon, the beautiful earth, vast oceans, and humanity, all created by You. We pray to be more peaceful and kind toward each other. God, we thank you in your many precious names. Amen.

“Ywhw will open the heavens for you; a rich storehouse of bounty, to send rain on your land in the proper time, and to bless everything to which you turn your hand. You will lend to many nations and borrow from none.” Deuteronomy 28:12 (The 1st Egalitarian Translation)
