This Week’s Reflection

“My prayer became ‘May I find peace. . .May I love this life no matter what.’ I was seeking an inner refuge, an experience of presence and wholeness that could carry me through whatever losses might come.” ~Tara Brach

This Sunday is the First Sunday of Pridetide. We begin a new worship series with the theme, “God Knows Your Name.” The series is inspired by the wonderful song by Tasha Cobb that invites us to find our sense of worth through God’s love for us. This Pride Season we are called to celebrate Pride. Yet Pride is not found in such externals as designer labels. Our Pride flows from the inside out, centered in our sacred worth.

Our theme scripture from 1 Peter 2:9-10 offers resounding clarity in defining us: “You are a chosen people. You are a royal priesthood. You are singers of praises to the One who called you out of fear into the wonders of divine love. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God.”

This Sunday and in upcoming weeks through Pride season we will open ourselves to the joy we experience when God calls our name. We will discover the ways that God goes with us, moves with us, and tells us that we are God’s own. When God speaks our name we find comfort, counsel, and eternal friendship. When we become quiet to experience our name spoken through our heart by the Holy Spirit, we will be made new. We receive what we need for the next minute, the next hour, the next day. . .for the rest of our lives.

To celebrate Pride is to rise up as LGBTQ+ peoples and offer counter voices to the voices of injustice, division and oppression. And our rising thrives as we are released from fear into the wonders of divine love.

Yes, we are a people. We each have a name that God knows. Therein we live with wholeness.

Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

Celebrate Dad

As we continue practicing social distancing, many of us still want to celebrate father’s Day with our dad and dad-figure, whether blood or chosen. MCCDC wants to celebrate and remember with you, so we invite you to email a headshot of your mom with his name. Feel free to include yourself in the picture too. We will fill the sanctuary with cut-outs of dads across our church family.

Please send your pictures to Melvin Moore via email, churchoffice@mccdc.com, by Sunday, June 13th.
