This Week’s Reflection
Election day in the United States is less than a week away. I’ve noticed how rather than thoughtful and healthy debate, so much of the rhetoric is divisive and reactive. In Matthew 5: 1-12 Jesus teaches a way of living that transforms reactions into the values of the Beloved Community of God.
The Beatitudes are at the heart of the teachings of Jesus. Beyond all the fear-based election headlines, Jesus describes a new world where:
~the hopeless are very near to the realm of heaven
~the grieving are made glad
~the humble inherit the earth
~the hungry and thirsty are nourished until they are full
~the merciful receive mercy
~the clear hearted see God and see the world as God sees it
~those who make peace are known as children of God
No matter the outcomes of the election, no matter what changes may come, the Beatitudes describe our way of doing and being. Every vote cast in love counts. And, all we do in love is like an action which is a vote that will prevail well past election day. The teachings of Jesus are lasting and true.
This Sunday at 9a.m. and 11a.m. Eastern in the Sanctuary, online and on demand we welcome back Eclectic Praise, leading music at both services. We have enjoyed Eclectic Praise videos throughout the past two years. This Sunday, the Sanctuary will be filled with joy, creativity and energy.

Effective Tuesday, November 1, MCCDC will adopt a flexible masking policy. That means when you enter the church at 474 Ridge St NW, you have the flexibility to choose* to wear or not to wear a mask.
