Tested faith trains us to believe more in God’s ability to give us life than our enemies’ ability to extinguish it.” ~Ayanna J. Watkins

This Sunday is the 8th day of the Great 50 Days of Easter, the spiritual countdown to Pentecost. This Sunday We launch our new series inspired by the book by Rev. Dr. E. Carrington Heath (they/them), Courageous Faith: How to Rise and Resist In a Time of Fear.

Our scripture from John 20: 19-31 finds the disciples behind locked doors in fear that they are in danger because of their support for Jesus. It is the evening of the resurrection. They love Jesus, but they don’t want to end up like him. In other words, their fear is greater than their love.

In the events surrounding Jesus, the disciples’ faith and their love was facing a test, not from God, but from the dangerous socio-political circumstances swirling around them. Many of us today feel like we’re facing something similar with the daily proliferation of hate speech, racist violence, and anti-Trans discrimination.

These are dangerous times. And God is not testing us. Rather, God is standing with us in the test we are facing. Jesus stepped into the center of the disciples’ fear with these words: “Peace be with you. As the Creator sent me, so I am sending you” (v. 21). The peace of Jesus transformed their fear into love. They became messengers of good news

This Sunday, we too will experience the presence of Jesus in our midst. Through the gift of the Spirit we will learn from the radical Rabbi who invites us to be messengers of love beyond all fears. The invitation of Jesus is to rise with him to live with Courageous Fait

Grace and peace,

Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

Pathways 2 Generosity, Prayer #102 by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” ~ Confucius

Dear God, thank you for sacrificing your son, Jesus Christ on the cross that we might have eternal life. Being buried in the tomb for three days, our Savior claimed victory over death. Jesus is alive! We are grateful that Jesus fulfilled your purpose to grant us grace that we may come alive by the quickening of the Holy Spirit. Because of your generous gift, we pray to abide in your grace, rejoice in our salvation, and spread the gospel all over the world. We pray to turn away focusing on the chaotic woes of the world and be encouraged to help where it is needed.

God, we thank you for all the spiritual gathering places throughout the earth. We pray to maintain an attitude of gratitude that endures through grievous situations as well as the joyous ones. Thank you for blessing the works of our hands to share generously of our hearts, financial gifts, talents, skills, time, and treasures to continue your great works in the spiritual realm. Thank you for the love and support that we have with one another; We are grateful for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and all spiritual ministries in a borderless Beloved Community for people everywhere. Thank you for growing our faith on the prosperous journey of living and sharing your abundance on purpose. Thank you in your many precious names. Amen!

“For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. God knows your trudging through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.” Deuteronomy 2:7 ( NJKV)
