“Hope is central to the faith journey. It is the bedrock of Christian life. It is how we all, in some way or another, discover God. It is how we all, in some way or another, continue to move forward in time when we feel we simply cannot.” ~Grace Ji-Sun Kim

In the United States, November 5 is moments away and full on our hearts and minds. Many are approaching the day with anxiety, fearful that whatever the outcomes there will be dangerous repercussions that cause harm to individuals and communities. Is there a way we can courageously approach November 5? Is there a way we can approach it with hope?

As Grace Ji-Sun Kim says, “Hope is central to the faith journey.” This is a good reminder: our faith journey is central, not the elections. The elections are important. Our faith calls us to vote as part of our civic participation. Yet voting is one action of many actions. Our greater action is working daily to serve our neighbors with kindness, to listen to the hurting with grace, to show up on-site or on-line at justice events, to ensure safe places for children to learn and to advocate for respectful resources for those needing care in their later years. On November 4 we are called to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength; the same on November 5; and every day following (see Mark 12: 29-31). The election does not change our deepest callings.

It is a scary world. And at MCCDC we’re working to create a better world. Working with hope and for hope goes beyond partisanship. Hope goes the extra miles for the good of others. Hope keeps leaning towards the vision of God described in Revelation 21: 1-6a: “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. . .I heard a loud shout from the throne , saying, ‘Look, God’s home is now among God’s people! God will live with them, and they will be God’s people . . . God will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.’”

God of hope, remind us of who you are. You are the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the God of all seasons and all times and beyond time. You are our On Time God. When election fears pull us off center, free us from anxiety as we remember the abiding hope of your presence, now and forever. Amen.

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, God’s mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Stronger Together: Being MCC in Politically Perilous Times in the U.S.

For U.S. Pastors, Pastoral Leaders, Network Leaders, and Lay Delegates:

While on our journey of faith, those who live in the U.S. now find ourselves in politically perilous times. And, we know that MCCers are always STRONGER TOGETHER when we share our journey in faith, prayer, and love.

So the Council of Elders invite you to join us as we explore what we carry in our ‘spiritual backpack’ on this journey and choose to move from independence to interdependence through listening, prayer, action, and hope. We are indeed stronger together and even stronger with love.

Upcoming Schedule: November 16 // 11AM ET / 10AM CT / 9AM MT / 8AM PT / 4PM BT

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #121

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“We have come to a place now where our search for Truth must no longer be for the rewards; it must no longer be our seeking a creed to follow, but it must be our living a life.” ~ Dr. H. Emilie Cady

Dear God, thank you for the abundant life that flows within and throughout our physical and spiritual lives to help spread the gospel of your unconditional love and mercy to everyone. Thank you for prosperity that surrounds us. Your abundance and generosity permeates through all that you have created. Thank you God, for the enlightenment that let us know that “prosperity” is not something we pursue as an ends unto itself, but that we realize Your prosperity encompasses all of life. We rely on your guidance to help us to be wise stewards of all that you give us according to our ability to share generously of our financial gifts, talents, time, and treasures with thanksgiving.

We are grateful for all spiritual places of worship throughout the world; and thank you for our spiritual home and the enduring gifts shared generously with Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, through our spiritual leaders, members, friends, and supporters. Lead us to trust you always in decision-making for expanding your church without walls, taking care of our households, handling our business affairs, and to continue doing great works to magnify your glory. We are grateful for opportunities to be wise stewards of your prosperity. Thank you, God, in your precious names! Amen.

“All this is for your sakes, so that as grace flows out to more and more people, it may cause thanksgiving to overflow and bring glory to God. “2 Corinthians 4:15 (The Complete Jewish Bible)
