“Power is neutral, but the use of power is not. That which furnishes the heart with meaning determines how we will use the power that is ours.” ~R.S. James

Our Peace Pole stands solid at the corner of Fifth and Ridge NW. It is small in comparison to other structures in our neighborhood. Yet its quiet presence, conveying love and peace in multiple languages, holds its own, even more. Our neighborhood is busy, with hundreds passing by. Many barely notice it. However, I received an email from one of our neighbors expressing gratitude. They said they pause for a moment each day at our Peace Pole.

Our Peace Pole is one of the ways that MCCDC is a gift to our neighbors. It may not be impressive. Yet it is meaningful. And it endures. Through seasons, sirens, and shouts it symbolizes the heart of our mission. During these post-election times, with many experiencing the weight of disappointment, it offers uplift. For those experiencing fear, it conveys the solidity of perfect love that counteracts fear. Yes, it is much more than a symbol: it is a call to put peace in action.

In the realm of God what seems impressive may be limited and what seems small may be unlimited. That’s what going on in our text for Sunday from Mark 13:1-8. One of the disciples is impressed by the Temple and says to Jesus, “Rabbi look at that stonework! Those buildings!” Jesus replied: “You’re impressed by this grandiose architecture? There’s not a stone in the whole works that is not going to end up in a heap of rubble.” As in many places in the gospels, Jesus points beyond the appearances of power.

The Temple in Jerusalem in all its glory indeed fell as Jesus predicted. Yet the eternal temple, the eternal place enthroned in our souls, holds the center of true spiritual power to carry us through this life. When we choose to live from the soul place, we are living in freedom. Life will always bring trouble. Today it may seem like everything around is falling down. Yet our center of true spiritual power endures.

As we live with true power, we become living temples. Our power to bring peace and love into the world may never create an impressive headline, yet this power is the embodiment of transformation. Join us for Worship this Sunday at 10:30 AM ET on-site, on-line or on-demand. In worship we touch the power of God and share that touch with others. Let us use our power for peace.

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

Stronger Together: Being MCC in Politically Perilous Times in the U.S.

For U.S. Pastors, Pastoral Leaders, Network Leaders, and Lay Delegates:

While on our journey of faith, those who live in the U.S. now find ourselves in politically perilous times. And, we know that MCCers are always STRONGER TOGETHER when we share our journey in faith, prayer, and love.

So the Council of Elders invite you to join us as we explore what we carry in our ‘spiritual backpack’ on this journey and choose to move from independence to interdependence through listening, prayer, action, and hope. We are indeed stronger together and even stronger with love.

Upcoming Schedule: November 16 // 11AM ET / 10AM CT / 9AM MT / 8AM PT / 4PM BT

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #123

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“Your most precious, valued possessions and your greatest powers are invisible and intangible. No one can take them. You, and you alone, can give them. You will receive abundance for your giving.” ~ W. Clement Stone

Dear God, you are Prosperity that encompasses all things, eternal life, the air we breathe, our heartbeat, the starlit sky, the vast oceans, the earth, the universe, and all that is in it. Thank you for the gift to choose each day to serve and worship you. We are charged as stewards of your abundance to give and share generously with a cheerful heart to carry out your purpose with others and ourselves. We are grateful for the financial gifts, talents, skills, time and treasures that are contributed to help spread the gospel throughout the world, and help those in need. Thank you for prospering our borderless beloved community to accomplish the mission and vision placed before us.

We are grateful for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and all places of spiritual worship. Thank you for our spiritual leaders who teach and guide us along the paths of righteousness according to your Word. When obstacles threaten to challenge our trust in you, and we begin to doubt if we can handle unplanned circumstances or unpleasant situations that seem to last forever, You are the One who gives us the strength and faith to move forward in the face of grief and disappointments. We are grateful for your unconditional love and compassion. Thank you for supplying our needs in all that we are and in the things we do according to your purpose for us. Praise your many precious names. Amen!

“Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation. Selah.” Psalm 68:19 (NKJV)
