“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure”. ~Colin Powell”
Where is your mind right now? Where is your heart, your spirit, and what is your bodily condition? Are you moving through each day “living your life like it’s golden” (i.e., living life to the fullest)? I would like to think that we each aspire to be our best selves as much as possible. At times we definitely hit that mark and at others we miss the mark of being our best selves by a lot. Do we want what the other person has? Do we compare ourselves to others? Do we look out and get fixated on “if only” or “what if”?
There are many amazing things that come from being filled with hopes and dreams for the present and for the future. This hope is what can help us continue through the challenges of tough times and spur us on to higher heights in good times. It’s when dreaming turns into longing and jealousy or seeking short cuts that can create challenges as well as hard feelings, and anxiety. Engaging in personal “heart” work that can expand into community service and social justice work opens the door for God to work and be present in us and in our communities. Find ways to get engaged in your MCCDC community as there are many opportunities for you to fulfill your spiritual gifts and passions. Let us know what is exciting you today.
This week’s scripture is Mark 10: 35-45. We notice in this story that a request is made by two disciples of Jesus, bothers. And the request really gets on the nerves of the other ten disciples. In the resulting discussion, Jesus talks about service and having a servant’s heart and spirit.
Please unite with us in community as we’ll be talking about self-service and other-service. Sunday worship is at 1030 am Eastern Time, on site, online, and also on demand. This is your personal invitation to attend.
Peace,
Rev Cathy
Evangelism
Join us Onsite, Online and later On Demand for 9am ET Spiritual Engagement Hour.
This Sunday’s Highlights:
+We are grateful in advance to Intern Jo-Anne Ludy for facilitating our conversation this Sunday!
+ Our conversation starter for this time of spiritual dialogue are the questions: What is your definition of evangelism? What images or words come to mind when you hear the word “evangelism”?
+We’ll reflect on Matthew 28: 16-20
+ More questions to reflect on:
>What are some ways in which you personally evangelize to others?
>Are we to take “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Creator, Christ and Holy Spirit” literally? Should the goal be to “convert” others?
>In today’s context, how do we handle the differences in people’s beliefs and faith traditions (or no faith tradition) when evangelizing?

Stronger Together: Being MCC in Politically Perilous Times in the U.S.
For U.S. Pastors, Pastoral Leaders, Network Leaders, and Lay Delegates:
?While on our journey of faith, those who live in the U.S. now find ourselves in politically perilous times. And, we know that MCCers are always STRONGER TOGETHER when we share our journey in faith, prayer, and love.
So the Council of Elders invite you to join us as we explore what we carry in our ‘spiritual backpack’ on this journey and choose to move from independence to interdependence through listening, prayer, action, and hope. We are indeed stronger together and even stronger with love.
Upcoming Schedule: October 26 / November 16 // 11AM ET / 10AM CT / 9AM MT / 8AM PT / 4PM BT

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #119
by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
“God, what is it You want to do through us?” ~ Rev Dwayne Johnson, Senior Pastor of MCCDC
Dear God, thank you for protecting us as we go about our daily lives. There is no greater love than the love you give us every moment of the day. Each time we ask “God, what is it you want to do through us,” it is time to search our hearts, become courageous and grow our faith, confront fear, and do what needs to be done, and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for the opportunities and blessings to continue growing our faith and trust your Word. We are grateful for the talents, skills, time, treasures, and financial resources we are endowed to carry out your purpose; and to share generously of these precious gifts within a “church without borders,” and in helping others as needed. We affirm in your many precious names, that we are a prosperous, beloved community, committed to perform great works you have ordained us to do.
We are grateful for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and all spiritual worship ministries throughout the world where everyone is invited to be part of your spiritual kingdom regardless of gender, economic status, race, cultural differences, genders, and religion. We are encouraged to move forward in faith through these perilous times and let our voices be heard, to stand in the truth of who we are, to show love and kindness where there is hate and strife. We are thankful for abundant prosperity in all its expansive expressions. Thank You in your many names. Amen!
“Let them shout for joy and be glad. Who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of [God’s] servant.” Psalm 35:27 NKJV
