“O Mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to move humbly with your God?” ~ Micah 6:8
The morning after the United States election one of the first texts was from a friend in Minneapolis. They shared their sadness and fear and then asked an important question: How do we proceed?
Our faith foundation helps us to live the question of how to proceed from here. In the Hebrew Scriptures the prophet Micah describes the essence of faith as living with justice, kindness and humility. When feelings are raw, Micah’s call is not easy. It takes determination to answer the call. In the face of setbacks, we are stronger when we join together in solidarity. What now? MCCDC is determined to be a place of justice, kindness and resolve.
In the New Testament the life and teachings of Jesus embody Micah’s witness. What is the life of Jesus calling us to do? Who is Jesus calling us to be? In Mathew 5:1-12 from the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus describes beloved community as a place where the hopeless, grieving and hungry gather to care and support, to be peacemakers. The realm of heaven is present in this gathering, where the values of empire are upended in a divine reversal. From loss, grace emerges and a new community is built.
There was deep uncertainty heading into the election. Now, the uncertainty is even greater. Will the threats from the campaign trail of retribution, revenge and deportation remain threats? Or will they become the new abnormal? There is so much we don’t know. What we do know is that we are determined to answer the call of Micah and Jesus and to be there for our community and each other.
God of love and justice, help us to live with integrity. May we proceed to move in your ways, even if heavy with disappointment, sadness and/or anger. Guide us to know what to do and how to be. Align our hearts with your heart, and re-center us during this time of de-centering realties. Help us to faithfully determine to do justice, to love kindness, and to move humbly with you, our God. Amen.
Grace and Peace,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

Stronger Together: Being MCC in Politically Perilous Times in the U.S.
For U.S. Pastors, Pastoral Leaders, Network Leaders, and Lay Delegates:
While on our journey of faith, those who live in the U.S. now find ourselves in politically perilous times. And, we know that MCCers are always STRONGER TOGETHER when we share our journey in faith, prayer, and love.
So the Council of Elders invite you to join us as we explore what we carry in our ‘spiritual backpack’ on this journey and choose to move from independence to interdependence through listening, prayer, action, and hope. We are indeed stronger together and even stronger with love.
Upcoming Schedule: November 16 // 11AM ET / 10AM CT / 9AM MT / 8AM PT / 4PM BT

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #122
by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
“We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community… Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.” ~ Cesar Chavez
Dear God, thank you for the commitment to stand on the principles of good stewardship as the Holy Spirit guides us. We are grateful for our spiritual leaders who teach and inspire us to share generously of your abundance to help spread the gospel, gather souls for your spiritual community, and to help others in need.
?We are thankful for all spiritual places of worship, and for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC. Let us not stray from the commitment to share our talents, time, treasures, and financial gifts to magnify your name in all that we do; and that we be a beacon of light so that others might experience your love, mercy, and become immersed in all that You are. With gratitude that overflows within us, thank you in your many precious names! Amen.
“Stop collecting treasures for your own benefit on earth, where moth and rust eat them and where thieves break in and steal them. Instead, collect treasures for yourselves in heaven, where moth and rust don’t eat them and where thieves don’t break in and steal them. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 (CEB)
