MCCDC - The Place To Be

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.” ~Acts 1:8

Like the earlier followers of Jesus, we need power from beyond ourselves, power from on high. In the mystery of our faith, the power from on high becomes the power from within. Through such power we are a people of courage, individually and collectively, for such a time as this. As many around us crumble with fear, we will move through fear.

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, fifty days after Easter Sunday and ten days after the Day of Ascension. At the first Pentecost the Holy Spirit moved in a mighty way. The Holy Spirit gave those gathered unique abilities to bear witness to the fullness of God. “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:4). Through this empowerment of the Holy Spirit the church was born and the world was changed forever—and is still changing. From that first Pentecost, people continue to rise up to work for justice, equality, and shared prosperity.

In preparation for Sunday, I invite you to join me in praying this prayer by Susan Muto:

“Come, Holy Spirit, and radiate through our finitude the infinite goodness and mercy of God. Teach us to see in every obstacle a formation opportunity. Lead us to eternal peace and joy in oneness with the Trinity. Amen.”

Grace and peace,

Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

Pathways 2 Generosity, Prayer #108 by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“Apply yourself both now and in the next life. Without effort, you cannot be prosperous. Though the land be good, you cannot have an abundant crop without cultivation.” ~ Plato

Dear God, thank you for being the strength in our weakness. It is through you that we move and have our being. With you all things are possible—the fulfilling of the vision and mission to further the purpose of your spiritual realm across borders for a borderless spiritual worship in all languages to magnify your glory and power. Thank you for courageous faith to work prosperously all of your goodness, and the willingness to share it with others. Thank you for your unconditional love that reigns over everyone, the grace you gave us through the sacrifice of your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

We praise you for all spiritual worship spaces, and our local worship space, Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, where we gather to worship you and share our offerings and tithes, talents, skills, time, and treasures in serving the purpose of your spiritual realm. We are thankful for the ability to gather wealth through the many resources you provide to carry out the vision and mission during our spiritual journey on earth. We are grateful for your priceless gifts of love, peace, kindness, respect, faith, strength, courage, wisdom, order, and the breath of life itself that you equipped us with to live a life pleasing to you. Thank you for the peace within that only you provide that keeps us humble in pleasant situations, and helps us endure unpleasant circumstances. We pray to wholeheartedly exercise courageous faith, trust you in all things, and continue moving forward. Thank you in your many precious names, Amen.

“With you God, are the greatness, power , glory, victory, and majesty. Everything in the heavens and on the earth belongs to you… Riches and honor come from you; and you rule over all. You hold power and might in your hands, and it is in your hand to make great and give strength to all.” 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 (The First Egalitarian Translation)
