This Week’s Reflection

MCCDC - The Place To Be

“The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart.” ~Romans 10:8, NRSV

A great theme of scripture is God’s companioning presence. Grace shows up. Grace never leaves us alone. God makes a way when there seems to be no way. In Psalm 105:1-8 the poet testifies: “Seek God’s presence constantly. Remember the marvels God has done. Remember the wonders performed and the justice pronounced.” As you pause to remember, in what ways has God been a companioning presence in your life?

When we seek God’s presence, and get quiet in the seeking, we’ll often realize that the presence has been there all along. Grace is a constant Presence. Nan Merrill invites: “Awaken! Listen in silence for the Voice of the Counselor.” What will come to us? Maybe the Holy Spirit will call to mind some of the great stories of grace, such as Joseph being saved from the pit in Genesis 37:28. Or Peter, saved by Jesus from drowning in Matthew 14:31.The great sweep of sacred text is the sweep of grace. Thinking about such moments, including the God Moments in our own lives, can lift us when we feel in the pit, or when we feel caught in a storm.

Prayer:
God of Grace, we are grateful for the great stories of grace that lift us when we are down. We are grateful that you remind us that we are not alone. May our doubts help us ask the questions that will point us forward in fresh ways. May we meet our fears knowing we do not face them alone. Help us to move out of your way and into the fullness of your life in us and through us. When we waver, give us the grace to remember that your “covenant is forever and we can trust the divine promise made for a thousand generations” (Psalm 105:8). Amen, and so it is. Amen.

Join us for a time of grace through worship each Sunday at 9a.m. and 11a.m Eastern in the Sanctuary, online, or later on demand.

Grace and peace,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

Pathways 2 Generosity, Prayer #72 by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“To any soul born of God, fortune is a default birthright…transact with a higher algorithm for prosperity on earth, as it is Heaven. Financial increase doesn’t, won’t find its way to you if your spirit is set to repel it…fight the spirited mindset that wars against your increase…your living inheritance.” {#KOGGD excerpt} ? Tracey Bond

Dear God, when seasons of grief and adversity fall upon us, you give us the strength to endure. You rejoice with us in our seasons of celebrations and triumphs. God, we are grateful for your unconditional love and mercy. We pray to be humble so that others may witness your light shining through us as holy vessels molded in your image, doing the work you have placed before us—the outpouring of your love and kindness.

Thank you for growing prosperity within our hearts to create avenues of generosity expressed by the cheerful giving of our financial gifts, talents, time, skills, and treasures to reach beyond “a church without borders” and harvest more souls into your inclusive Beloved Community. We know that all good comes from you; and we are thankful for the many ways you prosper us.

God, we are grateful for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington, DC, our spiritual gathering place, and other spaces of spiritual worship where all people are welcome to praise and glorify You, our Provider, in different languages spoken throughout the world. We praise you with thanksgiving and singing! Thank you, in your many precious names, Amen.

“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the Beloved Community O Lord, and You are exalted as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great, and to give strength to all.”
1 Chronicles 29:11-12
