“We were born to enjoy a meaningful and engaging relationship with God.” ~Kimberly Orr
At MCCDC we seek to support people in the deep meaning that comes from relationship with God. “We become more fully human as we learn to reflect more vividly the image of God who created us” says theologian Kimberly Orr in an invitation to grow in hope.
In this age where hopelessness seems to prevail, we find prevailing hope in Christ. Living in hope is living with intention. Hope grows when we plant seeds of hope. We are invited to learn the ways of hope by practicing hopeful actions.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as you teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16).
To be a community of hope is one of our deepest callings. This past Sunday after our worship service we set up a table at our peace pole at 5th and Ridge and offered our neighbors conversation, prayers, communion, water and snacks. We could say that through this engagement we were offering “hope to go” in a tangible and visible way. Some folx stopped and engaged with us. Others walked quickly by; yet even as they passed they received our silent prayers and we saw them through the eyes of Christ. In a world where so many seem invisible, we acknowledge our neighbors and “see” them. This is not a one-time event. Plan to join us the first Sunday of each month as we expand our hospitality from the Welcome Hall to the peace pole.
Indeed, we are enough, and we have enough for the journey because our Great God, our Creator, our Savior, our comforter, our Beloved is with us and will be with us now and forever!
Ephesians 1:12 is an invitation to be a people of hope, both inside and outside: “We are called to be an honor to God’s glory because we were the first to hope in Christ.”
In Hope,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson
