ANNIVERSARY LETTER FROM THE SENIOR PASTOR
Dear Members, Friends and Community:
This weekend (May 19 and 20) MCCDC celebrates our 47th Anniversary. Our theme for the weekend is “47 Years of Rising Strong.” Over the years, we have created a strong home. Many who have moved to such places as Atlanta, Los Angeles, Tampa and Houston still claim MCCDC as their home.
Now that our LiveStream is fully launched at both 9AM and 11AM, people from around the world think of MCCDC as home. Some have never attended in person. From our neighborhood and abroad, MCCDC is a place of support, joy, friendship, spiritual growth, listening, prayer, sharing, and more.
I am eternally grateful for those who first came together to create a place of unconditional love for everyone. From the beginning, MCCDC has provided “a place to be” for those who have been turned away, shut out, locked out or had doors slammed in their faces. Praise God for every person who has found a spiritual home at MCCDC through the years. There is simply no way to quantify or fully know our impact through the years. Yet God knows!
We are committed to build on the strength that has brought us this far. We rise strong through sustained spiritual growth. We rise strong through inner strength and to outward social responsibility. As our world becomes increasingly fractured through greed, fear, and isolation, our mission is more vital than ever. In a world that drains hope and vitality, there needs to be a place where people come together to renew their strength to go back out.
Yes, MCCDC rises strong every day of the week. We rise strong to touch lives, to offer leadership in our community, to impact our neighborhood, and to challenge people to live beyond the culture to a freer life of faith. We rise strong to welcome new people to experience the strength we share together as a life-giving home for all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people and advocates.
Great days are ahead as we praise God for the many lives touched by MCCDC since our founding in 1971 and as we seek God’s guidance to rise strong to who we are called to be now and into the future.
I’m excited about our future, and more immediately our plans for this weekend. Saturday, plan to join us for our wonderful dinner to celebrate our anniversary, and to celebrate the Ministry and Work of our special honoree, the Rev. Elder Darlene Garner.
Tickets are $47 at the door or in advance!Click here to purchase tickets
Our celebration continues on Sunday at 9 AM and 11 AM. I’m excited about Rev. Elder Darlene Garner’s message: “Between Rocks and Hard Places.” We will also be honoring all members who have been with us 20 years or more. . .including some who remain active participants through their prayers, giving, and worship via LiveStream. See you Sunday at 474 Ridge street NW . .or on the Stream at MCCDC.com
