“We need to trust God when God asks us to move forward by taking what may appear to be small and insignificant steps.” ~Wessel Bentley
When it comes to generosity it has been said that the size of the heart is more important than the size of the gift. At MCCDC we treasure the many ways people are generous. From cooking to graphic design to dance to purchasing gift cards for the food insecure, and so much more, we are a generous people. We are a big hearted community.
Who taught you generosity? Our Generosity Team has been meeting weekly and we’ve reflected on that question, sharing stories of parents, grandparents and mentors who have expanded our hearts through the generosity of their hearts. In 2 Timothy 1:1-7 Paul reminds Timothy of who taught him generosity. Encouraging Timothy in this pastoral letter, Paul writes: “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you” (v. 5).
Timothy was called to offer generous ministry in the face of difficult times. Along with other followers of Christ, Timothy was facing the persecution of the Roman Empire. Paul encouraged him to encourage others and continue strong in the faith: “God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-control” (v7). A spirit of love, given by God, encompasses generosity.
There are many paths to generosity, and we’ll be exploring them in coming weeks. Yet there is something the many paths have in common: they all open the heart.
By Faith,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnso

Teresa of Avila on Courage
Join us on-site, on-line and later on-demand for 9 AM ET Spiritual Engagement Hour.
This Sunday’s Highlights:
+We live in times that are impacting mental health. At MCCDC we offer support.
We are aware of stigma and seek to create a space for open conversations
to help us learn from each other in a spiritual context.
+Theme: “Courage is the virtue that moves us from being weak-souled (pusillanimous) to being great-souled (magnanimous).
It enables us to overcome obstacles to doing the work of the saving God in this world. ~Rosemary Broughton
+To prepare, reflect on this description of Teresa of Avila by Rosemary Broughton:
“In counseling her Sisters, Teresa told them that they would need courage and determination from beginning to end. Early in the spiritual journey, one needs courage to move beyond a well-ordered, safe life to an authentic engagement in doing the will of God. Later, the virtue of courage enables one to maturely persevere in the face of difficulties.”
+Bring your favorite poems or other writings.

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #160
by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
Dear God, thank you for your loving care and tender mercies each day. As your beloved inclusive community, we ask “what is it You want to do through us” during these chaotic upheavals. Help us remain mindful of your blessings, and not take them for granted but to be thankful for all that you have done, and continue doing for us. We trust you, the strength of our life, that we be encouraged to confront issues in positive ways according to your purpose in troublesome times. Help us to release and let go of self-limiting beliefs that may cloud the vision of exercising prosperity in its many expressions to perform your great works of which we are ordained.
Thank you, God, for the spiritual leaders, and teachers who commit themselves to spread the gospel of your unlimited grace throughout the world. We are grateful for all places of spiritual worship where people gather to praise and glorify your name. Praise your holy name for the spirit of generosity that inspires us to share financial gifts, talents, skills, time, and treasures in service to you, and to help people in need. We pray to remain a shining light of your goodness that shines into the farthest corners of the earth; and that all people will come to know you are the One whose salvation is the way to eternal life. Your grace is sufficient. We claim the victory in your many names! Amen.
“Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes! With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth. In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.” Psalm 119:18-19 (ESV)
