MCCDC-Bible-in-90-Days

In 2011 MCCDC offered our first round of The Bible in 90 Days. One of our members, Johanna Hardy, had done it previously and suggested it to our community.

Since then, we’ve offered it every two years, on odd-dated calendar years. Some have participated with each of the seven journeys. If you’ve experienced it, I encourage you to join again this year. If you’ve not tried it yet, give it a whirl.

Why? Here are five reasons:
1)The Bible is transformative. The Bible is a library that through various writers and genres tells the stories of God’s love. Love is transforming.

2)The Bible’s impact is increased when read in community. Perhaps like me you’ve attempted to read through the entire Bible on your own. How far did you get? Many, if they are able to make it through Exodus, get stalled in Leviticus. As we read together, we encourage each other and even have fun along the way.

3)Our hearts and minds are opened and stretched. Each time we read, something new stands out. Sometimes it is disturbing. Sometimes it is surprising.

4)Our approach is flexible.

Here is the link for the official version: B90 Book

Some find the official version helpful in staying on track. AND, you will be supplied a written plan if you wish to use your own Bible or translation. Others use an audio version of the Bible. There are many options out there, and some of the audio versions have a 90 day plan. This is especially great for commuters. Along the way, we’ll share our tips on how to stay on track.

5) Relationships are strengthened. We find ourselves building relationships with our scriptural ancestors, biblical scholars past and current, and with each other.

Sign up today at: mccdcin90@gmail.com. Our journey begins on January 16th!

Holy Creator, thank you for another opportunity to journey together through the Bible. Open our hearts and minds. Help us to grow in number and in faith as we seek connection and wholeness. Amen.

By Faith,

Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

When We Pass Through the Waters

Join us Onsite, Online and later On Demand for 9am ET Spiritual Engagement Hour.

This Sunday’s Highlights:

We’ll reflect on Isaiah 43: 1-7 which is one of the lectionary scriptures

for the First Sunday After the Epiphany

Isiah 43: 2 says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when you pass over the rivers, you will not drown?”

What do these lines evoke in you?

How does one approach the promises of God with the realities and impact of natural and unnatural disasters?

What are some ways to create openness to the new things God may be doing?

How have you experienced God when passing through your “waters” of life?

We’ll share our thoughts on these questions

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #127

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“Keep your face always toward the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you.”~ Walt Whitman

Dear God, we pray to always walk in your Light and keep our eyes on You and let the shadows of doubts and fears fall behind us in the year of 2025. We appreciate your unconditional love that does not have to be earned because it is given. We are grateful for all that you have done. Thank you for blessing us to prosper to the best of our ability. Help us express much gratitude during trials and tribulations as we do for our joyous seasons. Being grateful is the building block of sharing your prosperity.

Thank You for the talents, skills, time, treasures, and financial blessings that is shared willingly through the power of your grace. Help us to remain steadfast and not grow weary of fulfilling the plans you have for us. With You, all things are possible when we believe, exercise faith, commitment, and perseverance.

We praise You for helping us to continue moving forward to accomplish the vision and mission of Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and for all spiritual places of worship that reaches across nations, countries, and continents to spread the gospel to everyone. Thank you, in your many precious names. Amen
.
