“These days I find myself reflecting on fierce and mighty love: the kind that steps up, stands strong, and marches alongside, no matter what. A love that stares down monsters, thrusts a lantern into the deep night, and holds on tight to the rope when life’s storms threaten to overwhelm everyone.” ~Audrey West
We are excited that this Sunday we launch the Season of Pridetide, a season that intersects currently with The Great Fifty Days of Easter and later with Pentecost. This year, many will be arriving from around the globe for World Pride. The theme is “The Fabric of Freedom.” MCCDC’s Pride Team has created a theme that aligns with the global theme. Our MCCDC theme is “Every Thread Divine: Weaving Justice, Love & Inclusion for ALL.”

In our scripture for Sunday from John 13: 31-35 Jesus teaches: “I give you a new commandment: Love one another. And you’re to love one another the way I have loved you” (v34). How do you define love? Here, love is defined as loving the way that Jesus loves. This is love not defined by emotions. Rather, it is love that is lived out through actions.

Recognizing and feeling our emotions is important. It is a way of being real and in touch. Yet when it comes to love our emotions do not have the final say, though they have a voice. When love is driven by attraction and hormones, it can block us from noticing red flags in a relationship. On the other hand, negative feelings towards another may lead us to avoid a person and miss ways to break through to loving that person.

This Sunday at 10:30 AM on-site, on-line and on-demand we’ll look at how Jesus teaches us to weave the divine thread of love. We’ll look at how we do this individually in our relationships, and we’ll also ask: “How can we each help MCCDC to be a more loving community?”

In preparation, I invite you to pray this prayer with me each day:

Lover of our souls and lover of the world,

we praise you for sending us Jesus to show us perfect love. Jesus loved with his body, mind and spirit. He taught his followers a fierce love that breaks through oppression to offer the alternative of wholeness. We praise you that through the Holy Spirit, Jesus continues to teach us how to love. We are surrounded by so many unloving and harmful actions. Help us to weave love in the places where the fabric has been torn. Help us to fulfill your loving purpose for ALL. Amen.

Through Grace,

Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #141

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“Give every day a chance to become the most beautiful day of your life.” ~ Mark Twain

Dear God, we are grateful for all that we have; and for the opportunities to grow stronger in faith in our journey with you. Thank you for the honor of stewardship that help us share generously of our financial gifts, talents, time, and treasures to serve you, help people in need, and for the gathering of souls into your spiritual realm. We are thankful for unlimited abundance that prospers us to share your love and compassion with all people according to the plans you have for an inclusive and beloved community without borders.

You, our Creator see all things and know everyone’s heart. God, help us live in peace, to understand and express love for all not only by words uttered forth, but from the depths of our hearts and choosing to do the right thing with our earthly siblings all over the world. We pray for freedom where everyone can live as loving families and be respected by all people. We desire to remain steadfast, keep the faith and trust in you, our Protector and Provider. Thank you, Lord, for your tender mercies. With thanksgiving and joy, we praise you in your many precious names! Amen.

“I will sing to you all my life, I will make music for my God as long as I live. May these reflections of mine give God as much pleasure as God gives me!” Psalm 104:33-34 (The First Egalitarian Translation)
