“Creativity is a gift from God’s power, an indication of the divine spark within us.” ~Sara Cowley
God’s fingerprints are everywhere. The psalmist looks to the heavens and is awestruck at the expanse of the moon and stars. The psalmist gazes at the “work of God’s fingers” (Psalm 8:3). Psalm 8 is a fitting psalm for the afterglow of Pentecost and the ongoing celebration of Pridetide. Our loving God who set creation in motion continues to create and re-create.

Creativity is the most colorful aspect of the character of God. God is the creator of landscapes, horizons, the phases of moons, tidal currents and the depths of sea and earth. And our God of heights and depths has also created us. The psalmist turns their gaze from the sky and stars to exult: “What are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor” (Psalm 8:4-5). Is it possible to see God’s glory looking back at us in our neighbors, or even see God’s glory when we look in the mirror? This is almost too much to take in.

The invitation of Psalm 8 is to see God’s fingerprints in our fingerprints. Through the gifts of our Creator, who will we choose to be and what will we choose to do? To create is to be a part of God’s work in this world.

Sara Cowley writes, “Humanity’s desire to make new things is one that comes from the Holy Spirit’s influence on our lives, driving us to mirror God’s precise construction. Whether it is a quilt, a painting, a dance, a poem, a building, or a loaf of bread, we honor our Creator by modeling the hope and care God has gifted us.”

Loving and Creative Creator,

Open us to the expansive opportunities before us. Your colors and textures are all around us, yet sometimes we are so busy or distracted we just don’t notice. Help us to notice. Remind us that when we express our creativity, we are living out your divine design. Weave your love through us. Amen

By Faith,

Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

Waging Peace

Join us on-site, on-line and later on-demand for 9 AM ET Spiritual Engagement Hour.

This Sunday’s Highlights:
+We live in times that are impacting mental health. At MCCDC we offer support.

We are aware of stigma and seek to create a space for open conversations

to help us learn from each other in a spiritual context.

+How are we to process the range of feelings, conversations and prayers triggered by the June 14th military parade?

Do you seek a supportive place to talk about it? This is the place.

+To prepare, reflect on this scripture from Isaiah 2:4

“And God shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #145

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community… Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.” ~ Cesar Chavez
Dear God, thank you for all blessings—blessings so many that the list cannot be exhausted. We are grateful that you have gifted us with eternal life, and that You, in your generosity gives us the choice each day to choose good or evil. We can choose to carry out your purpose for our lives, or we can choose to do nothing, and yet you continue to love us. Your gift of mercy forgives our shortcomings. Thank you for the gift of forgiveness, and that everyone will reap the consequences of seeds that are planted whether in word or deed. God, thank you for placing the greatest gift of all, LOVE, within our hearts, a place that some of us fail to look until troubles arise. Thank you for the strength to survive amidst world chaos.

We pray to continue faith-building in unlimited ways—loving everyone, being kind and helping others, praying and encouraging each other; and sharing generously of our financial gifts, talents, time, skills, and treasures for the edification of your spiritual kin-dom here on earth. Help us to recognize the opportunities (our daily bread [ideas] and follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance in expressing prosperity in its many creative venues that help us perform the great works that you have placed within our hearts. We are gifted in varying degrees! Let us be wholehearted in each expression, and praise you with gratitude! Thank you in your many precious names. Amen.

“Each one, as a good manager of God’s different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift [that each] received from God.” ~ 1st Peter 4:10 (TEV) [Today’s English Version]
