This Week’s Reflection
The crucifixion and resurrection were major events long ago and surely remain so today. And I am always awed by what happened in the days and weeks and years that followed.
This Sunday, we will be guided by Acts 2:42-47, a brief recording of how the Apostles touched many from various communities to create shared lives and well-being for all. In that time under Roman rule such egalitarian community-building was rare and, frankly, it seems so yet today.
Yes, in these hard and mean days, it is vital that we not only remember what Jesus and the Apostles taught but also act as they did to create a movement of equality, mutual care, and justice. Certainly, the founding of MCCDC in 1971 marks such a witness.
But I will be sharing another contemporary example of a larger community’s witness in response to the misuse of government power, inspiring me, and I hope you, to join together to build a new world. And I will connect that to the ancient law of reciprocity, calling us to give in response to all that we receive. Indeed, given how much we have received and continue to receive from Jesus, we have much to give.
And the world needs our generosity—just think how much Earth gives us and how much we need to contribute to healing Earth under attack by our current regime.
I pray for days of peaceful, hopeful action, of receiving divine inspiration through Jesus and committing to create a better world. May we be grateful for the witness of our ancestors in faith and carry the message forward.
I hope you and many will join us on Sunday at 10:30 EDT onsite, online (I will be live from New Jersey), or later on demand. It is our opportunity to join in acting with Jesus for the good of the world.
