This Week’s Reflection

As our week begins moving toward Sunday and worship, we are burdened more heavily by a new war—that on top of reducing government help for many in need here and abroad, violence aimed at migrants whether they are undocumented or not, and refusal to care for Earth and increasing the danger of climate catastrophes and widespread health challenges.
These indeed are trying times, and the need for prayer and mediation—listening for divine messages and gathering for corporate worship (in person and online) has never been greater. I am sad I will not be with you in the flesh but know I will be with you on YouTube. I have learned over my time in New Jersey that I remain blessed online—indeed that Great Spirit (my name for Divinity) knows no boundaries and on Sundays my heart is very much at 474 Ridge Street NW.
This Sunday we are observing the Third Sunday of Lent, meaning we are drawing about halfway to Palm Sunday and then Good Friday and Easter. And I am struck by our primary biblical text for this Sunday which involves a beloved story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 (Mark 6:32-44). And frankly, given all that we are experiencing these days, this precious account of how Jesus cares for all people, indeed in my view, all beings, is a great medicine of hope. Indeed, I hear Jesus calling us to gather in order to receive divine blessings and be empowered to go forth to share those blessings with a world in great need.
I hope you will join with me and many on Sunday at 10:30 am ET onsite, online, or later on demand. It is our opportunity to stand with Jesus as the 5,000 did long ago.

Peace,
Rev. Dr. Robin Hawley Gorsline

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #169

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
“Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.” ~ Napoleon Hill
Dear God, thank you for the joy of hope that everything works for the good according to your will and purpose for our lives. Regardless of plans we make to better the circumstances that surrounds us, it is your plan that stands unmoving through the annals of time. When we are at the point of giving up, give us hope to rise upon extended wings of faith and surrender our will to You. Help us to remain committed, practice patience, exercise perseverance to triumph over obstacles and setbacks. God, we thank you for each new day, to have another chance “for a new beginning.”
We are grateful for spiritual leaders throughout the world who diligently inspire hope and imbue knowledge to all who are willing to listen to your Word, worship you, and are willing to follow the prompting of Holy Spirit. Thank you for the wisdom and discernment to carry out your purpose to expand this Beloved Community, your spiritual realm, a borderless communion with all people.
Thank you for the talents, skills, time, financial gifts and treasures expended to perform great works in your name—preaching the gospel, helping others in need, praying, and encouraging each other. We are grateful for opportunities to live prosperously according to our ability to distribute God’s wealth in its various forms of energy and expressions. We praise your many precious names. Amen.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)
