“Sing a new song to the Lord, who has worked wonders.” ~Psalm 98:1
Our first Sunday of 2026 will engage with two iconic texts: Psalm 98 and John 1: 1-18. Take time to read them to prepare for Sunday. Both scriptures put the past and the future into perspective. Our wonder working God is already singing a new song for the new year. Yes, God sings! God sings through us. We look back and sing, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” The God who has been our help in ages past goes with us into the days to come, singing songs of lament and songs of rejoicing.
Reflect for a moment on 2025: What wonders do you recall? What songs did you sing? What was your favorite song in 2025? Now imagine forward: are you ready for a new song? What wonders do you anticipate?
Every year, including 2026, holds surprises. Some surprises in 2026 will be exciting. Others will be disconcerting. We can anticipate there will be times of rest and unrest. That’s life. Some people we count on will let us down. Other people will come into our lives to lift us and help us. We’ll experience the best and worst. Yet we can sing the Andre Crouch song that exclaims that through it all we’ve learned to trust in Jesus, we’ve learned to trust in God.
Though we can’t always count on people (after all, people are people!) we can count on the One who is the Word, the Word from the beginning, who is the Everlasting Word, the lamp unto our feet and the light unto our path. We can count on this One who is all fullness and through whom “we have all received grace upon grace” (John 1:16). The grace of the Word will undergird every moment, and help us to learn from difficult times and revel in the joy of good times.
Join us this Sunday at 10:30AM on-site, on-line and on-demand for the first Sunday of 2026 as we begin the year with worship, prayer and learning.
Holy God of New Beginnings, we anticipate new possibilities. Help us to look back and see what you have done and how you have been faithful and brought us through. Thank you for being a God who transforms our mourning into morning. Open us to follow you into the new year, centering in your Word that supplies every need in body, mind and Spirit. We praise you for who you are, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. Amen.

Through Grace,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #93

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
“Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul.” ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Dear God, thank you for the opportunities to serve and worship you from our hearts through the guidance of the Holy Spirit; guidance for the generous sharing of financial gifts, moral support, talents, time, skills and treasures with people all over the world in an expanding borderless beloved community. Help us release and let go of any doubts that try to cloud the vision and mission of all places of spiritual worship performing great works in your name.
We are grateful that you are with us always in our joyful times and through the difficult times. Thank you, God, for prosperous living in all things—your unending grace, health and healing, family relationships, and the respect of friends and neighbors. We cherish all that you have given us by the labor of our hands; and miraculous gifts bestowed upon us when it was hard to see beyond unpleasant circumstances. Thank you for entrusting us to continue your great works here on earth as your Son, Jesus Christ did so many years ago. In your many precious names, thank you. Amen.
“Let us come into God’s presence with thanksgiving; and sing our praises with joy.”
Psalm 95:2 (First Egalitarian Translation)
