September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Raise awareness, normalize help-seeking, and promote hope. This month and all year long.
This Sunday, we continue to acknowledge and join in national and worldwide efforts to shift the culture of silence and stigma about suicide to one of empathy, openness, and support. Suicide affects millions of people worldwide every year. We are reminded in our spiritual context to continue to support–in prayer and meditation, words, and deeds– suicide prevention and mental health/wellness within and beyond our MCCDC communities. We are reminded that individually and in community God/Divine/Creator is present, truly knows and loves us, and is active in our journeys.

I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the Lord; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (Common English Bible)

We are blessed to have this Sunday’s Message be brought by Tessin Haugabrook (he/him), long-time MCCDC friend and community mental health specialist and advocate.

Please join us. You are welcome here!

Tessin Haugabrook, RN M.Eng. M.Sc.

Tessin Haugabrook is a registered nurse and certified mental health specialist with over 20 years of experience in the ICU, ER, and psychiatric behavioral health. He holds a master’s degree in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Central England and is the founder of Bridge & Anchor, a nonprofit that provides education, connection to services, and ongoing support for individuals and families facing mental illness.

He works with the Department of Behavioral Health and lectures at universities, commencements, and mental health events across the U.S. and U.K. A cancer survivor and lifelong advocate, Tessin is deeply committed to amplifying the voices of marginalized individuals and advancing mental health awareness. His devotion to MCCDC Church in Washington, D.C. and his community inspires his mission to create positive, lasting change through service and compassion.

9 am Spiritual Engagement Hour

Spiritual Warfare

This Sunday’s Highlights:

+We live in times that are impacting mental health. At MCCDC we offer support.

We are aware of stigma and seek to create a space for open conversations

to help us learn from each other in a spiritual context.

+This Sunday we’ll look at how to pray through these times, and the idea of Spiritual Warfare.

+To prepare, reflect on this scripture from 2 Corinthians 10:4-5:

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.

On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”

+Bring your favorite poems or other writings.

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #158

by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter

“I see you everywhere, in the stars, in the river, to me you’re everything that exists; the reality of everything.” ~ Virginia Woolfe (Night and Day)

God, the Omnipotent, you are the fabric of life in all creation. You speak and we become, each a unique individual. You give us the authority to be the pilot of our lives with you as our compass to guide us safely through troublesome areas of life as well as sailing through the joys of life. Though we are many, you bless everyone with varied degrees of gifts, and in your generosity bestow talents knowledge, good stewardship, skills, the spirit of generosity, helpers for and of others, rulers, and citizens throughout the whole world.

Help us to share the precious gifts of leadership, wisdom, decision-making, understanding, and compassion with others wisely that reflect your love for the whole world. Thank you for the multi-colored rainbow of races, ethnicities, and genders throughout the world. We are grateful for your love deep within our hearts to share with one another. We beseech you to let freedom be the thread of a happy life and peace for everyone. May we all treasure this generous gift to help bring peace into the world today. Thank you in your precious names! Amen.

“O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.” Psalm 139:1-4 (ESV)
