“Let your God love you. Say nothing. Ask nothing. Let your God look upon you. That is all.” ~Edwina Gateley
Our desires and the desire of God intersect with two words: Welcome Home. These two words also express the desire of MCCDC for our community. In a world of severe division and growing isolation, where those seeking welcome are often turned away or even deported, we seek to be a church of welcome. People are searching for love, which is home at its best. People long for authentic welcome.
In our scripture for Sunday from Luke 15: 1-10, Jesus was criticized for offering a welcome that was too inclusive for some. His critics said, “This one welcomes sinners and eats with them” (Luke 15: 2).
In response to the grumblings of his critics, Jesus describes a divine welcome that is not passive, but deeply active and far-reaching. God’s divine welcome is unconditional and constant. Jesus describes God’s welcome as a divine search, like a shepherd who has lost one of 100 sheep. The shepherd can’t sleep until a long search in the wilderness brings the lost one home. Welcome home!
Then there is the one who loses one of ten coins. A careful search ensues until the lost coin is found. In both stories, finding what is lost leads to an invitation to friends and neighbors for a celebration party. Jesus says the celebration is far reaching, with “joy in the presence of the angels of God.” (Luke 15:10). Welcome home!
The life of Jesus was one of powerful messages and
actions, including extending a radical welcome to our neighbors.
Action: Let us prepare our hearts for Sunday by reflecting on this quote by Paul Tillich: “You are accepted. You are accepted by that which is greater than you. Simply accept the fact that you are accepted. If that happens, we experience Grace.”
By Faith,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson
9 am Spiritual Engagement Hour
We Need Each Other
This Sunday’s Highlights:
+We live in times that are impacting mental health. At MCCDC we offer support.
We are aware of stigma and seek to create a space for open conversations
to help us learn from each other in a spiritual context.
+This Sunday we’ll continue to explore what it means to be community on a deep and dynamic level.
+To prepare, reflect on this quote from Joan Chittester:
“The moment I come to realize that it is precisely the gifts of others—and they mine—-
marks the moment of my spiritual beginning.
Suddenly, creature-hood becomes gift and power and the beginning of unlimited personal growth.”
+Bring your favorite poems or other writings.

Suicide affects millions of people worldwide every year and during National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week and Month, MCCDC joins with national and worldwide efforts to shift the culture of silence and lack of understanding about suicide to one of openness and empathy. We raise awareness, normalize help-seeking, and promote hope, and we are reminded to continue to work to do so every day of the year, supporting mental health and wellness and suicide prevention within and beyond our MCCDC communities .1

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #157
by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
“Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.” ~ Mark Victor Hansen
Thank you, God, for the attitude that helps us recognize your abundance that surrounds us in so many expressions—people of all ethnicities and genders throughout the world vibrant as a rainbow that graces the sky, a cheerful smile, a word of encouragement to someone, the joy of waking up each morning, a miraculous healing that amazes the medical profession, praying with a loved one, or blessing someone in need with a financial gift. Thank you for helping us through the trials and tribulations when we are overwhelmed with fear and worry about situations beyond our control. Whatever the circumstances are, you are always by our side, walking with us. letting us know that you are always here, nor will you abandon us or forget us.
We are thankful for all spiritual worship places throughout the world, and the most significant space within our hearts where everyone has direct communion with the Holy Spirit, our Comforter. We are grateful for the spirit and willingness to share with others the fruits of your prosperity through love, kindness, talents, skills, and abilities. Thank you for growing us in faith and the privilege to be good stewards of your generosity. We pray to remain humble in all that we are and in all that we give and receive of your abundance. We are grateful for the opportunities to let your precious Light shine through us to magnify your glory in spreading the gospel to everyone, and gathering souls for your spiritual realm. Thank you in your many precious names. Amen!
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NLT)
