“In Christ’s family there can be no division or separation into Jew and non-Jew, enslaved and free, male and female. All are equal and one in Jesus Christ. And being in Christ’s family makes you a descendent of Abraham and heirs to the covenant promises of God.” (Galatians 3:28-29, The Message Bible, adapted
This text from Galatians affirms who we are and whose we are–children of God–worthy of God’s inclusionary love in which we are all loved, affirmed, and accepted. We are all God’s beloved, created in God’s image, and worthy of recognition and inclusion as children of God because God makes no distinction. Because of who we are and whose we are, we are called to love one another as we love ourselves. We can show others how to weave the threads of inclusion because we have the model of Jesus’s life and ministry of inclusivity.
Dear God, thank you for being the Weaver who lovingly created us in your image, who makes no distinction among us, who calls all of us your children. Thank you for making us a part of Christ’s family and for making us heirs of your covenant promises to Abraham. Thank you for giving us the courage to speak up and to affect change when we see others being treated as less than or as outsiders. Thank you for making every thread divine. Amen

Howard Thurman and the Long Breath
Join us on-site, on-line and later on-demand for 9 AM ET Spiritual Engagement Hour.
This Sunday’s Highlights:
We live in times that are impacting mental health. At MCCDC we offer support.
We are aware of stigma and seek to create a space for open conversations
to help us learn from each other in a spiritual context.
+Howard Thurman teaches the spiritual practice of “The Long Breath”
drawn from the life of Jesus,
including Matthew 14: 23:
“Jesus went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone.”
+To prepare, reflect on this quote from Howard Thurman:
“The time most precious for Jesus was at close of day.
This was the time for the long breath,
when all the fragments left by the commonplace,
all the little hurts and big aches, came to rest.

Pathways to Generosity, Prayer #146
by Clara Carter, MCCDC Prayer Supporter
“The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter [their] life by altering [their] attitudes.” ~ William James
Gratitude, by Clara Carter, ©June 15, 2025
Believe that God provide all your needs
Let your words and actions be as precious seeds
Create a new harvest song to sing
Express gratitude for the joy it brings
Though you encounter struggles and strife
Be thankful for the gift of life
By faith, lay hold of I’m possible
For God’s strength is inexhaustible
When attempted to quit
Do not lose your grit
—believe that God will guide you through
—and use the abilities gifted to you
Remain steadfast, and remember to pray
A prayer of gratitude every day
“All these things are for your benefit. As grace increases to benefit more and more people, it will cause gratitude to increase, which results in God’s glory.” 2nd Corinthians 4:15 (CEB)
