This Week’s Reflection
“Moses’ greatness as a person and leader is truly remarkable. He struggles constantly with besetting weaknesses. His self-doubt plagued him and almost caused him to refuse God’s initial call. Despite Moses’ emotional ups and downs and periods of self-doubt, God was able to work through him to do great things. This should give all of us hope that God can also work through us in amazing ways.” ~Connie Neal
Wouldn’t it be great if like Moses in Exodus 14: 21-31 we could stretch out our hand and turn dangerous waters into dry land? It would be nice if there were fantastic solutions to the obstacles we face each day. Yet life teaches us that quick fixes are rare. “Solutions” are often illusive. Instead, real life is usually a process. Sometimes the process is uncertain and the instructions unclear. Often, the guidance comes in stages and positive results take time. Learning to know when to wait and when to act calls for wisdom rather than impulse. How do we garner that wisdom?
This Sunday we begin a new series that intersects with the complexities and joys of real life: “Wellness in Body, Mind and Spirit.” Join us in the sanctuary at 9a.m. and 11a.m Eastern, online, or on demand. We will consider the wellness process from a variety of angles and perspectives. What can we learn about wellness from sacred texts?
This Sunday we’ll consider Moses. He had amazing strengths. He also had significant growing edges, including boundary issues and impulsiveness. The life of Moses teaches us that wellness is not about perfection. Wellness is about awareness, patience, and finding gratitude in the moment. It is about returning, about remembering (re-membering), about small moves encircling their way to wholeness.
Grace and peace,
Rev. Elder Dwayne Johnson

“Gratitude opens the door to the power, the wisdom, the creativity of the universe. You open the door through gratitude.” — Deepak Chopra
Dear God, we thank you for blessing us to lead prosperous lives. We are immersed in your goodness and grace that surround us each day. We pray always to remain grateful for the little things as well as for the large miracles performed through your love.
Thank you for unending love and forgiveness. We are grateful for Metropolitan Community Church of Washington, DC, where we gather as family and friends to worship and honor you. Thank you for the talents, skills, time, and the spirit to share generously of the resources to help spread the gospel around the world; and provide assistance to people in need. Thank you for the church without borders where all spiritual places of worship welcome everyone into this Beloved Community.
We pray to live according to your purpose that you have preordained for us. All goodness comes from you and is available to everyone who can receive through faith and perseverance. Thank you, God, in your holy name! Amen.
