David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands . . . and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and God will give all of you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:45-47).
When David faced a Philistine, a giant named Goliath that stood over nine feet tall, David looked at Goliath and said: “This day I will defeat you!” David did not allow Goliath’s size to intimidate him. Nor was David just being optimistic. David understood the principle of faith and knew the miracle was in his mouth. David had to release the victory. When God wants to create, God uses words! Get in agreement with God.
What if David spoke: “Well, I think I can defeat Goliath. But I don’t have any armor and I don’t feel experienced.” Or what if David would have gone back home to his father Jesse as his brothers instructed? What if David said, “I thought I wanted to face Goliath, but he is too big?” If David had just thought positive: “I believe I can overtake him! I have what it takes” he wouldn’t have defeated Goliath. David knew he had to speak it: “I will defeat you.”
You may be facing a giant in your path. It could be a giant of sickness, a giant of depression, or a giant of hurt. Like David, you need to announce to that giant: “I will defeat you!” No forces will stop you from fulfilling your destiny. The forces that are for you are greater than the forces trying to stop you. Don’t deny the facts; just say what God says about you and the situation. Speak Life! Declare: “I am surrounded by God’s favor!” Get ready for doors to open and for God to show out in your life! Get ready!
The scripture says; “Let the weak say I am strong.” (Joel: 3:10). It doesn’t say let the weak talk about their weaknesses. Start talking like it is going to happen. Be like David and speak victory: positive faith filled words.
Friends, your miracle is in your mouth. Get into agreement with and declare what God says about you! Hold fast to the profession of your faith (Hebrews 10:23). Release your Miracle!

Call to Prayer and Update on proposed Development at 1200 5th Street by MidCity Development
Since our congregational forum with MidCity Development in September, the Board met in more detail with representatives of MidCity in November. Following each meeting our concerns were put in writing to MidCity and we requested additional information and commitments to mitigate the concerns raised. On December 30, 2019, MidCity provided a written response; however, key issues and concerns will require additional discussions and some information requested has not been provided. Given the significance of the development, impacts on MCCDC and the neighborhood, the outstanding questions and concerns, to preserve the interests of MCCDC the Board approved requesting Party Status in Opposition with the DC Zoning Commission. The hearing for the new development is scheduled for January 16, 2020 with a deadline of 14 days prior to the hearing to request Party Status. Party Status, if granted, will provide MCCDC with rights to present at the hearing, question witnesses, and be officially notified of any decisions or other actions.
To Review Official Submission On the Project CLICK HERE and enter case number 19-16.
To view a copy of the official filing in PDF CLICK HERE!
The Board intends to submit more detailed written testimony ahead of the hearing and will present our position at the hearing in January.
We invite and encourage all members and friends available, to plan to attend the hearing of the Zoning Commission scheduled for January 16, 2020 at 6:30pm, Jerrily R. Kress Memorial Hearing Room 441 4th Street, N.W., Suite 220-South Washington, D.C. 20001.
We pray and hope we will continue to be able to have dialogue with MidCity and through this process help mitigate the concerns and ensure the development is a benefit for our community and neighborhood.
We ask for all to be in prayer during this process for MCCDC, the community, and for MidCity that what will result is a development appropriate for our neighborhood. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Rev. Dwayne, Rev. Cathy or any of the Board Members.

The Intercessory Prayer Team invites the congregation to “PRAY FIRST” for the New Year! Join us as we endeavor to start off 2020 in prayer by praying first in these five areas:
• Before getting out of bed
• Before driving or taking the metro/bus
• Before saying offensive or derogatory words
• Before making impulsive or important decisions
• Before going to sleep
We believe this will make a difference in our year and draw us closer to God and take us into the Lent season.
You can join us at intercessory prayer on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month in the Chapel. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Jules at enjoyingtoday@hotmail.com.
