Who is visible and who is not? That’s one question from this Sunday’s text from Luke 16: 19-31. Jesus’ parable compares a privileged one with every advantage to one named Lazarus. The need of Lazarus is obvious. Yet he remains invisible. The privileged one refuses to see, much less help.
Recognizing the invisible is one of our greatest callings. Indeed, more than a calling, recognizing is a responsibility. There is no compassion without recognizing. There is no empathy until one opens the eyes of the heart. That’s one reason the National Trans Rally and March this weekend is so important. NOW is the time to fully recognize the presence and gifts of Trans Siblings. All have status as God’s beloveds, worthy of full equality on all levels. The call of Jesus to bridge the gaps that divide people makes it clear that Trans Visibility is a spiritual directive. At MCCDC, it is a directive that we embrace.
Our worship this Sunday will highlight the call of Jesus to Trans Visibility, with special guests including Rev. Aaron Miller from the MCC Global Justice Institute and others here for the weekend.
PRAYER: God, who makes all people visible, help us to live deeply and openly, that all would be visible and none invisible.

NATIONAL TRANS VISIBILITY EVENTS, WASHINGTON, DC
The National Trans Visibility March is of critical importance at this time. With the Equality Act of 2019 being threatened by the Senate and the continuation of the Trans military ban implementation, there is a need to mobilize America to recognize and fight for the rights of TGNC/NB people. Although the current administration has intentionally rolled back efforts to prevent inclusion of transgender communities in the upcoming 2020 Census, individuals from the TGNC/NB communities have mobilized and issued a call to action to dismantle the social structures that have oppressed and disenfranchised the TGNC/NB community for far too long.
March with us at the National Trans Visibility March to show the world that our lives matter, that our health matters, that our present and future matters, that our voices matter, that our minds matter, that our feelings matter. March with us to demand justice for our sisters and brothers whose lives were taken through senseless murders, violence and systemic oppression. March with us to demand financial equity and employment opportunities. March with us to fight for health equity. March with us to show the world that no decisions are made about us, without us.

On October 6th, as part of the 51st anniversary celebration of the founding of the Metropolitan Community Churches, MCCDC is hosting a presentation to memorialize MCC artifacts. At the 11 o’clock service representatives of the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of American History will accept the artifacts from Rev. Troy Perry founder of our denomination. All are invited to this historic occasion which will take place during the regular worship service.

Writing Workshop, November 9, 1:30- 4:00 pm
MCCDC will host a Spiritual Writing Workshop on Saturday, November 9, 1:30- 4:00 pm. All are welcome (but please register in advance if possible).
Facilitated by Rev. Dr. Robin Hawley Gorsline, Writer-Theologian in Residence at MCCDC, the session will focus on liturgical (worship) writing-prayers, invocations, calls to worship, contemporary psalmody and more. Think about what you might like to do, trusting God to guide you in doing it! We will engage in some exercises during our time with plenty of time for your creative writing and discussion with each other. Also, feel free to bring a piece already in process.
A light lunch/snacks will be available, but feel free to share as you can, including beverages.
In other writing news, Rev. Robin is once again coordinating Advent devotionals. Watch this space for more information about this year’s theme. It is not too soon to begin thinking about this (Advent begins December 1 this year)!
