JOIN US SUNDAY! 9AM & 11AM

WHOLEHEARTED LIVING

“Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion and connection to wake up in the morning and think, “No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough.” It’s going to bed at night thinking, “Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.”

~ Brene Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection
Jesus lived with fullness and clarity of heart. This is where he found his strength. He faced adversity with a soul that was sure of itself, undisturbed by opposition. In this Sunday’s scripture from Mark 3: 20-35 Jesus’ family accuses him of being out of his mind and a delegation of religious legal experts accuse him of demon possession.

Rather than attack back, Jesus shares from his heart. Scripture does not indicate any defensiveness or anger from his heart. He simply makes the point that his record stands for itself: He has been casting out demons thus he is not possessed by demons. Jesus is not harsh: just clear.

In response to family drama, Jesus also shares from his heart. He defines family as those who align with his own wholeness of heart: “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers? Whoever does God’s will is my brother, sister, and mother” (Mark 3: 34b-35).

RevDwane_2The wholehearted mindset of Jesus speaks hope to the divisions that wrack our world today. In my message this Sunday I invite you to join me to consider ways of living that are grounded in wholeheartedness. Jesus is the best example I know of such an approach to life.
See you Sunday at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
Faithfully,

Rev. Dwayne

Dear Church congregation,

The MCCDC Board of Directors, Trustees, and staff want to invite you to an open forum THIS SUNDAY after each of the church services. This is a very important time for MCCDC as we move aggressively to finish 472 and review the church finances at the mid-point in the year. We want to make sure each one of you is as informed as possible, so please try to attend one of these church forums on June 7.

In terms of the 472 renovation project, the Board, the Trustees, and the Staff have been meeting every Tuesday night to discuss the project, meet with project managers, and make important decisions regarding the construction.

The delays have caused the church considerable financial hardship in terms of loss of revenue. This has forced us to pay the church mortgage from both the General Fund and the Buchanan Building Fund.

As you can see, the 472 project is very important to the financial health of the church and we must work diligently to finish the renovations, get tenants in the building, and start applying revenue to the church mortgage.

The Board has done everything it can to minimize the impact this has had on our General Fund budget and avoid any mid-year budget cuts.
Having said that, we need everyone to commit to being consistent and faithful with tithes and offerings to the church this summer. During the summer months, if you are going to be away from church, please make sure you stay current on your tithes and offerings. You can give electronically at www.mccdc.com/donate or send your tithes to MCCDC, 474 Ridge Street NW, Washington, DC 20001.

We appreciate your faithfulness to MCCDC and the work each of you helps MCCDC accomplish for the church congregation and for the DC/VA/MD communities.

Sincerely,

MCCDC Board of Directors
MCCDC Trustees
MCCDC Staff

MINISTRY CONNECTIONS

Opportunities to serve in ministry are plentiful. If you have a heart to serve and to be a part of something larger than yourself, please consider this your personal invitation to join in ministry. Where needed most:

Children’s Ministry – The Children’s Ministry provides a fun and safe space for children to learn about spiritual values, while valuing each child’s unique talents and abilities.

Hospitality – God’s hospitality extends welcome to the entire community, the Hospitality Ministry provides arms and feet to that welcome. The ministry is responsible for coordinating food and welcome during the social time.

Information Station – These faithful folks coordinate the sharing of information about ministry activities, events and directions. They extend the hospitality of welcome to everyone who has questions or require assistance.
Adult Sunday School – This is a brief yet powerful time to connect with scripture and each other. Participants meet on Sundays from 10:15 – 10:45. All are welcome.

AV Ministry – This Ministry is responsible for the sights and sounds in worship and other services in the sanctuary. If you feel called to investigate learning and participating in providing audio and video support, please pray about connecting.
