“Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.”
~John F. Kennedy
During these times that may seem to move around us so quickly, we can be encouraged by God’s abiding presence and love. It’s been said that our Creator is a God of second chances (and more). Whatever our situation or circumstance, we can take it to the Lord and have confidence that our prayers are received. In times of joy and in times of trouble, God is there. In times of grief and anger, God is there. In times where we miss the mark and hurt others, God invites us to consider another direction.
Each of us has made mistakes. I think that is an inevitable part of being a human being. What can be remarkable is how we respond after making a mistake. Denial? Anger? Redirecting? Shame? Harsh words? Running Away? Making amends? Forgiveness? Depending on the situation, we often have the ability to move in another direction.
Our scripture for Sunday is 1 John 3:16-23. Verse 18 gives us great guidance and encouragement for these times in case our hearts get discouraged, or our spirits waiver from our goal of serving God and loving each other. It says, “my people, our love must not be only words or mere talk – it must be true love, which shows itself in action and truth.” I believe the love mentioned here is not the syrupy, sticky, sweet kind of love (although there certainly is a place for that). This kind of love is willing to help in times of trouble, willing to lend a hand, willing to kindly and boldly speak their truth, and then really listen to others.
Our theme, Courageous Faith, is encouragement to consider the possibilities for ourselves. What does it mean to have the faith to courageously move in another direction? How do we listen to the God of our understanding and sift through the background noise in our lives? Our conversation on Sunday will be about “action and truth”.
Join us for service at 9am and 11am ET online and on demand.

“You have within you right now, everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you.” ~ Brian Tracy
Dear God, we praise you with gratitude for the gift of eternal life. Each morning we are resurrected from a night’s sleep there is a new day of beginnings to continue great work for your spiritual realm. We are grateful for the miracles that you perform each day in our lives. As we go about our daily routines, we pray to heed and obey the Holy Spirit guidance willingly. We are thankful for the patience to endure grievous times; and in times of rejoicing that we do not forget the “hallelujahs” belong to you. We are grateful for the faith and perseverance to trust you with hope, and renewed strength to stand, and not grow weary.
Thank you for working through Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC, and the spiritual places of worship around the world, a borderless worship where everyone is welcome to share God’s unconditional love Thank you for the wonderful opportunities to continue giving generously of financial gifts, time, talents, and treasures in worship; and for being a blessing to our families and others in need. We praise you for growing us in faith and prosperity. Thank you, in your many precious names. Amen.
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
