Eternal Waters

“Jesus is the one in whose presence you know who you really are—the good and bad of it, the all of it, the hope in it.”
~Barbara Brown Taylor

In the Gospels we listen in on many of Jesus’ conversations. John 4:5-42, the text for this Sunday, is his longest. It may also be his deepest. It is a conversation that happens at a moment of desperate thirst, both for Jesus, and the woman he meets in the hot noonday sun at Jacob’s well.

In need of water, they both receive something more. Jesus meets her thirst when he reveals himself to her, the first such self-revelation in John’s Gospel: “I am the one you have been looking for” (John 4:26).
She recognizes Jesus for who is and receives the living water that becomes a wellspring within her, for this life and life beyond, life eternal.

This Sunday we’ll listen closely to this life changing conversation. It holds insight on how each of us may live well and love well. What does Jesus have to say to us? Though the message for each of us will likely be personalized, the common factor is that Jesus will speak to us like someone we’ve “known all our lives, bubbling up in our lives like a well that needs no dipper” (Barbara Brown Taylor).

See you Sunday at the well—also known as MCCDC. Worship is at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

Women’s History

Alice Paul is credited as one of the leading figures responsible for the passage of the 19th Amendment (woman suffrage) to the U.S. Constitution. In her honor, the Equal Rights Amendment was sometimes called the Alice Paul Amendment. “When you put your hand to the plow, you can’t put it down until you get to the end of the row. I never doubted that equal rights were the right direction. Most reforms, most problems are complicated. But to me there is nothing complicated about ordinary equality.” By Jone Johnson Lewis Women’s History Expert

MCCDC LIVE STREAMING

live-steam-camera

MCCDC is going live! We have an opportunity to use of our AV system to reach outside our walls to many people who may not be able to join us in person. To make this happen we must have a subscription service that will provide us the ability to stream our services, concerts and special events, and expand opportunities for participation in our bible studies and other activities remotely. The testing done so far with streaming has generated a lot of excitement, particularly by those who have been unable to visit our church.

You can be a part of making this happen in a number of ways: (1) pray for our reach beyond the walls of our church (2) join others in donating to cover the one-time annual cost of the service and associated AV training for our volunteers; and (3) consider joining the AV ministry.
