MCC Lenten Meditation for Easter Sunday

MCC Lenten Meditation for Easter Sunday

Matthew 28: 1-10

Most Easters, for the last 42 or so, I have preached from the beloved story in John's gospel. John's account of Mary Magdalene in the garden -- her intimate encounter with the Risen Jesus -- is so personal and compelling that the lectionary always offers it as one of the readings.

Yet today, I am fascinated with Matthew's gospel portion, which includes earthquakes in the account of the death of Jesus (Matthew 27: 51 and 54), as well as in the story of Jesus' resurrection. In fact, Jesus' resurrection is preceded and followed by accounts of tombs being opened by the quakes and many "saints" roaming about the city!

Creating a Life that Matters is a three-course curriculum which explores ways to rediscover relationship with the Sacred, with one’s Self, and with one’s Passion. These three courses correspond to the spiritual experiences of being changed, gifted and called. Graduates of Creating a Life that Matters will have been challenged to broaden their understanding of all that is Sacred; integrate their self-awareness into being authentic, aware leaders; and live their passion intentionally through the life and work of the church. Creating a Life that Matters integrates art, scripture, music, film, journaling, and diverse spiritual resources to augment our exploration of the Christian path.* Courses are starting soon at MCCDC in partnership with MCCNOVA. If you are interested in becoming a part of this amazing event, please contact Rev. Cathy at revcathy@mccdc.com or 202-638-7373.
